Corvo Attano

Corvo Attano is the main protagonist of Dishonored and was born in the city of Kernaca, the capital city of Serkonos. Because of his father being killed when he was young, Corvo grew up in the streets, where he became a capable fighter. It was this upbringing that allowed recognition of his sword fighting skills at the age of 16, earning him a spot in the Grand Serkonian Guard.

Eventually, he landed a position as Royal Protector to Empress Jessamine Kaldwin, whom he became close to and becoming lovers at some point. It’s not explicitly pointed out whether or not Emily is his child, although some people suspect he may be, due to his closeness to her. He was away on official duty to help find a cure for the rat plague that decimated the population of Dunwall.

On his return, the Empress is killed by assassins and Corvo is framed for her murder. Not long after this event, he meets up with The Loyalist Conspiracy, who helps him escape from prison, as well as The Outsider, a mysterious entity who gives him his supernatural powers. It is up to him, and you as a player, to exact revenge on the people who did this and rescue Emily.

Empress Jessamine Kaldwin

Jessamine Kaldwin was the Empress of the Empire of the Isles and is assassinated during the game’s opening sequence. She was a compassionate and just ruler, using her power to make sure the people lived a comfortable life. Unfortunately, she lived in a time of political conspiracy and rife, as well as the outbreak of the Rat Plague that decimated the population of Dunwall. She is survived by her only daughter, Emily.

Emily Kaldwin

Emily Kaldwin is the daughter of the late Empress, Jessamine Kaldwin, and heir to the throne. During the events at the beginning of the game, she is kidnapped by Hiram Burrows and held captive by him so he can get into power. The Loyalist Conspiracy aims to rescue her and place her back on the throne. Her attitude and personality throughout the game are influenced by the player’s decisions and choices.

Lord Regent Hiram Burrows

Hiram Burrows , the Lord Regent, is one of the antagonists of the game and is the person behind the murder of the Empress. He hired the assassin, Daud, to kill her and then he framed Corvo for both the murder and the kidnapping of her daughter, Emily. Having taken over the goverment, his rule is oppressive and corrupt, which leads for the forming of The Loyalist Conspiracy.

Daud

Daud is a master assassin and the leader of a group of them, called The Whalers. He was hired by the Lord Regent to kill the Empress, as well as kidnap her daughter, Emily. He is a playable character in the two story DLCs, The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches. Daud is one of eight people in the world with the Outsider’s Mark, as explained by The Outsider in The Knife of Dunwall.
