Your goal now is to head down that bottomless well in the middle of the hub area (yep, the one outside the cat’s house). You’ll need to have either chatted with Laddersmith Gilligan (found hidden on an outside platform in Earthen Peak ) and bought his biggest ladder for 12000 souls; or bought the Silvercat Ring from the cat for 13400 souls.

Make sure you have full health before attempting to fall down to the top platform. It’s simply FAR too risky to try with anything less than full.

You won’t need any extra health for the ladder option; but you’ll also miss out on a number of decent items littered on the platforms on the way down. These goodies include: [Radiant Lifegem] , [Pharros Lockstone] , [Ring of Evil Eye +1] .

There are two doorways down here and each one leads to a different area. The upper one leads to Tomb of Saints and this is an entirely optional (and PvP-focused) area. The lower doorway leads onto the next main area in the storyline should you want to continue on your main quest.

To The Gutter

Proceed through the lower doorway and run down the stairs until you see a Blue Crystal Lizard up ahead. Do your best to kill it before it disappears; but be wary that your reward will likely fall between the cracks of the wooden bridge you’re on!

If you’re under 70.1% equip load then you can run and jump across the gap in the bridge to the chest holding the [Ash Knuckle Ring] (increases Petrification resistance). Once you’re ready, jump back across the gap and equip the best long-range weapons you have (bows are perfect).

There’s a waiting ambush of Wretches in both doorways below you and the water will make dodging their belly-flops even more frustrating than it really needs to be.

So pick off the first two Wretches and the rest will start to come out to see what’s going on. Either manually aim or use lock-on to pick them off one-by-one. Once you’re confident they’re all dead (or no more come out), re-equip your armor etc and drop down into the water and pick up all goodies down here.

Check out the entrance located to your left (from the entrance above) and at the end you’ll find the [Great Heal] spell. Now backtrack through to the other entrance and make your way to the room with the ladders and platforms in it.

Take your time as you’re going down the ladders and platforms and try to resist from jumping between platforms. It’s annoyingly easy to miss/over-roll and fall to your inevitable death. Pick up all the items along the way and be sure to check the wooden chest at the very bottom for a [Token of Spite] .

Just down the tunnel is the next main area: The Gutter .
