Dark Souls III is an action role-playing game from the Japanese developer FromSoftware, the developers behind the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne. Development began in 2013 by Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, instead of creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, and was developed alongside Bloodborne.
Intended to serve as a “turning point” for both the franchise and the studio, Dark Souls III was designed to be a stepping stone to the next Souls game.
The visuals of the game were designed to focus on “withered beauty”, with ash scattered throughout the game’s world to match its theme, while improvements to the battle system and the addition of weapon skill were made to advance the gameplay.
Dark Souls III follows the protagonist, known as the Champion of Ash, whose been awakened by the tolling of the Bell that indicates the First Flame is in danger of fading. Your goal, seek out the five Lords of Cinder in an attempt to rennact the ritual of flame and rekindle the First Flame to preserve the age of fire.
Only in truth the lords will abandon their thrones and the Unkindled will rise.
*Nameless accursed undead, unfit even to be cinder.
And so it is, that ash seeketh embers.*
