Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

New Switch Axe Silkbind Attacks and Switch Skills

By
Matt Chard

The Switch Axe is one of 14 weapon types in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. This peculiar weapon has two modes, Axe, and Sword. It can interchange between the two, and even combo into each other. The Axe mode offers more mobility and powerful single hits, while the Sword mode offers quicker strikes, and phial effects. You can use the phial to deal a whole host of status, and elemental effects. Furthermore, the phial effects can continue over to the Axe mode. With Sunbreak, the Switch Axe will obtain new Silkbind Attacks as well as new Switch Skills which will add even more depth to its already powerful arsenal.

The Switch Axe has two modes: Axe mode, and Sword Mode. These two modes can be combined to unleash deadly combos.

New Silkbind Attack: Elemental Burst Counter

This new technique gives the Switch Axe a much-needed counter. The counter works by compressing the Switch Gauge energy into an Elemental Burst. If you time the burst just as the monster attacks you, you’ll perform a power finisher which’ll leave the Switch Axe in the Amped State giving you ample opportunity to output more damage.

New Switch Skill: 2-Staged Morph Slash Combo

This new Switch Skill follows the Wild Swing attack, and comes into two stages.

  • 1st Stage - The first stage morphs into the Sword Mode.

  • 2nd Stage - The second, morphs into the Axe Mode.

When you’re performing this combo, the power of your Sword Mode attacks increase while the Axe Mode builds the Switch Gauge faster.

Switch Skill Swap

This isn’t a new skill, but it is a new way to use them! The Switch Skill Swap will allow you to change your equipped skills whilst in battle. There will be two scrolls, one red, and one blue. By visiting an Item box either at the hub or in the tent during a quest, you can customize your favorite skills to each scroll.

The Switch Skill Swap system looks to reinvent the way Monster Hunter Rise is played.

When you’re in battle, you can swap between each set to give you access to your other skills. Another great addition to this system was the Swap Evade. This allows you to evade in any direction by pressing the roll button after you have swapped sets.
