When you’re ready to continue on with the main questline (hopefully after completing the expedition to Fangberry Cave), take a look at your journal. Chapter 1’s overarching main quest is Stolen Land, and it consists of several component main quests, the two most important of which are Stolen Land and A Bitter Rival. Not confusing at all. The former you’ve advanced a bit already, as it covered the events at Oleg’s Trading Post, and is generally concerned with your endeavor to defeat the Stag Lord. A Bitter Rival, meanwhile, covers the Tartuccio-related activities in this chapter. You are, after all, competing against each other to defeat the Stag Lord.
Why not just organize things by these two quest names, then? Well, simply put, these are rather long quests that take you to many different areas, and if that’s not enough, for various reasons you can’t actually just start one, complete it in its entirety, then move onto the next. Instead, you’ll need to move between the two as circumstances (and perhaps, the strength of your party) allows.
The first objective now that Oleg’s Trading Post (and again, hopefully the aforementioned expedition) have been dealt with is tracking down Tartuccio… mostly to obtain another companion and to discover the Old Sycamore area, which you’ll get to later. Once that’s done we’ll pursue information regarding the Stag Lord as much as possible, gaining experience and loot until we’ve no choice but to turn our attention back to Tartuccio. The pages covering these events are listed in order, below:
Area | Notable Encounters/Loot |
---|---|
Ancient Tomb | Can recruit companion from Tartuccio, Longsword +1 |
Pine Patch | – |
Thorn Ford | Svetlana’s Ring quest, Studded Leather +1, Ring of Protection +1 |
Oak-That-Strayed | (Optional exploration) Keen Sickle +1, Resotivic Sorceress’s Discharged Staff |
Technic League Ambush | (Optional, but will likely occur en route to the Abandoned Hut) Hand of the Technic League quest, Estoc +1 |

Boggard Hunting Ground | Ring of Protection +1, Cloak of Resistance +1 |
Technic League Encampment | Can recruit Octavia and Regongar, Headband of Vast Intelligence +2, Chainshirt +1 |

After completing that, we’ll cover the numerous Old Sycamore areas:

When you’re done in the Old Sycamore areas, the way to the Stag Lord will be open. We suggest indulging in a second expedition that’ll cover some of the areas in northern Shrike, and get you valuable experience and loot. This second expedition will be covered in greater detail on the Northern Shrike Expedition page. Expedition or no, this chapter will end with your assault on the Stag Lord’s Fort and the political consequences of your actions.
