During the course of battle, your Pokémon can be inflicted by status ailments or you can cause them to the opposing Pokémon. Most of the time, ailments are caused by using moves, such as Sing, which causes Sleep. As their name implies, ailments negatively affect a Pokémon’s performance.
However just like they can be caused, they can also be cured. This can be done with a recovery item or by visiting a Pokémon Centre.
Primary Ailments¶
Ailment | Symptoms | Cure |
---|---|---|
Burn | The Pokémon takes some damage at the end of every turn and their Attack stat falls drastically. | Burn Heal |
Freeze | The Pokémon cannot perform any action. Cures naturally after a number of turns in battle. Upon thawing; the Pokémon will immediately perform its selected move. | Ice Heal |
Paralysis | The Pokémon sometimes cannot move, therefore losing their turn, and their Speed stat falls drastically. | Parylz Heal |
Poison | The Pokémon takes some damage at the end of every turn. | Antidote |
Sleep | The Pokémon cannot perform any action. Cures naturally after a number of turns in battle. Upon waking; the Pokémon will immediately perform its selected move. | Awakening |
Ailments persist between battles, so it’s worth your time to cure them as soon as possible, or during the next safest opportunity. Your opponents rarely have the means to cure ailments, so don’t hesitate to cause them yourself. It’s a bit sneaky, but totally within the rules.
