Steelrising Unstable Lancer Guide

By
Craig Robinson

Steelrising’s very first boss in the game is the Unstable Lancer, a lanky metal unit, with long-range spear thrusts. This is like the Lancer units you will find in the game, albeit, packing a greater punch. Here are some tips and tricks to handling Steelrising’s Unstable Lancer mini-boss.

Steelrising Unstable Lancer Tips and Tricks

We offer some tips and tricks for taking down Steelrising’s Unstable Lancer.

As this is the very first boss you come across in the game, you will not have much other than a few items you’ve picked up, along with your starting gear. Your tactics here are to you use your starting weapon’s special attack effectively.

  • The Dancer and the Bodyguard class will have shielding, which is a good option for resisting the Lancer’s spear thrust.
  • Meanwhile, the Soldier can stay at range, dodge and shoot when necessary.
  • As for the Alchemist, they will need to dodge effectively, and apply their Ice Batons frost effects to make long attack sequences possible while the Lancer is frozen solid.

Outside of all that, the boss has a few techniques easily telegraphed, which include the following attacks:

Spear Thrust: The boss will extend its spear’s range and try to attack the player. Note that there are two variations, one long range, and one where the attack comes from above, like its pike fishing, depending on where the player is standing. The boss telegraphs this move by the roughly second-long drawback on its spear before launching it at speed. As for the pike, it folds its other hand into its chest. Ideally, you can dodge the boss’s left to evade taking a hit easily for both hits or dash behind the boss before it strikes.

Jump Back: The Unstable Lancer can jump backwards and then make a fast attack. Once again, dodge to the side when the boss lands firmly to evade this hit.

Swipe: The boss can sometimes combo its Spear thrust with a swipe attack, telegraphed with its spear arm going to its side. This requires you to dash behind the boss before the strike goes off to avoid damage.

Other than that, this boss doesn’t have too many tactics, but it can be slightly tricky considering the lack of player stats, weapons or equipement. Practice makes perfect, especially if you’re much newer to the game.
