Steelrising’s weapon upgrade feature is a prominent part of improving your gameplay as the story progresses. You will come across various items, each representing a tier. Moreso, all the upgrade items are still relevant through levels 1 to 5, so you will constantly be acquiring materials to upgrade weapons as you play through the game. Here is a closer look at each weapon material, and how you upgrade weapons in Steelrising.
How to upgrade weapons in Steelrising¶
To upgrade weapons in Steelrising, you must visit a vestal or the horseless carriage. Once you’re at one, you can head over to the upgrades option, then head into the weapons and navigate the weapons in your inventory.
You will find each weapon has a requirement, depending on the level the weapon is at. Moreso, players will need to spend anima upgrading their weapons. Here are the typical requirements for upgrading your weapons in Steelrising

How to get Steelrising Bronze Ingots¶
Bronze ingots are the most common weapon upgrade material you will stumble upon during the game. These are looted from the following locations:
- Chests, especially in lower-level areas.
- Chances to loot them on dead robots you can loot, both ones you can kill, with low drop chance. You can also acquire them with higher drop chances from the bigger robots you fight, especially the gargoyle enemy type, along with any siege-type monster you come across.
- The white loot sources you find on levels, especially ones on the dead robot props you find through levels, especially in lower level zones,
- Lastly, the copper ingots can be purchased from the Boutique fairly early on.
How to get Cast Iron in Steelrising¶
Cast Iron in Streelrising is also fairly common, especially as the game progresses, but is in short supply fairly early into the game. Cast Iron loot sources are similar to the Bronze, and can be found:
- Higher level enemies
- Late game chests
- The Boutique
Steelrisng Bismouth Blocks¶
Bismuth Blocks are fairly rare items in Steelrising, typically only appearing towards the later stages of the game. The Item is typically a late-game item, which can upgrade your weapons, especially around the level 3-4, and the 4-5 mark.
Steelrising’s Bismuth Block typically drop from enemies in the higher-end zones, especially the Unstable Automats. However, you can also claim them from other sources, such as buying them from the Boutique when they unlock, along with looting chests while you’re going to earlier levels and venturing into their new areas, largely down to the side quests.
How to get Orichalcum in Steelrising¶
Orichalcum is the final crating material in Steelrising. The material is an end game material, almost exclusively earned via killing the Titan bosses throughout the game. However, it appears the first two bosses, Sentinel and the Bishop, don’t drop it. So, the sources of Oricahlcum are limited in terms of natural progression.
