You will face a number of different bosses in Visions of Mana, some of which are nods to the previous entries in the series. In Chapter 7 of the main story, you end up going after the Benevodons, leading you to face a number of bigger battles along the way. In chasing after Tor Marne, Benevodon of the Moon, you will face a different fearsome foe, the Vampire. This page will go over the Vampire’s attacks, as well as give strategies on how to beat it.
All of Vampire’s Attacks¶
For the most part, most of the Vampire’s attacks are simple and nothing too troublesome. As the fight progresses, it will start doing additional blows on its regular attacks.
-
Summon Enemies: Vampire can summon lesser enemies during the battle. It seems to always be two Dark Batmos, a Queen Succube, and a Doom Sword.
-
Claw Swipe: Vampire will perform a simple swipe with its claws, but it will do three of them in a row. It’s not too difficult to avoid these.
-
Ground Slam: A red marker will appear on the ground and Vampire will perform a pouncing slam onto that marker. In the early stages, it’s usually two in a row, but this will increase to three later.
-
Sonic Rings: Vampire shoots large rings at your characters that travel in a straight direction. Not only do they deal damage, should they hit, but they can also put your characters to sleep.
-
Draining Bite: Vampire will rear back, then dash straight towards a character, grabbing them. If successful, then it will bite them and heal itself with the attack. It seems to almost always follow up with this if a character is afflicted with sleep.
-
Darkness Shroud: While not an attack that can damage, at points, Vampire can shroud the arena in darkness. If you have the Lumina Lantern equipped on someone, use it to dispel the darkness. Otherwise, you have to simply wait until it wears off on its own.
Vampire Boss Strategy¶
Vampire is a pretty typical boss that doesn’t seem too difficult, but it has a few abilities that can spell trouble, especially if your characters cannot get out of the way. It is weak to Light attacks, so it’s a good idea to put some on your spellcasting characters, and to also equip the Lumina Lantern. When the Vampire summons enemies, you will want to get rid of them as soon as possible, so if you have a Class Strike charged, that would be a good time to use it.
The Claw Swipe is a series of three strikes with its claws, so try to stay away from from them when you see it do the one. The Ground Slam is the only attack that has a red marker on the ground, so you’ll know it’s coming. However, it can come out fairly quick and it will use the move at least twice in a row in the early parts of the fight, with more being added as you drain the boss’ health. There will also be some points during the bout that the Vampire will cover the arena in darkness. This doesn’t hurt you and you’ll still be able to see the markers with the Ground Slam, but it might be difficult to see the other attacks.
If you don’t have the Lumina Lantern set on one of your characters, then you’ll have to wait out the timer. Otherwise, just use the lantern and the darkness will be dispelled. The two moves you definitely want to be on the lookout for are the Sonic Rings and Draining Bite. The former does some damage, but it can also put your characters to sleep. Should that happen, Vampire will typically follow up with the bite attack, which heals the boss. Naturally, you don’t want that to happen, since it can continue outhealing your damage.
Of course, there’s nothing you can do if your allied characters get in the way of the two annoying attacks. Hopefully setting their strategy to prioritize protection will keep them out of harm’s way. Otherwise, just keep moving to avoid the attacks as best as you can, while taking out any extra enemies it summons. You’ll receive a Vampire Corestone after the battle and be allowed to continue exploring Castle Cresceno.
