This page contains all of the details on how to upgrade your PS4 version of Ghost of Tsushima to Director’s Cut and how to transfer your save across both games.
How to Upgrade your PS4 copy¶
There’s been much confusion as to how the upgrade of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and what it contains. This will differ based on if your PS4 version is on disc or digital:
Physical Disc Copy¶
Should you have Ghost of Tsushima on disc for the PS4, you must insert it into the PS5 (obviously you’ll need to have the disc version of the PS5) and then head to the PlayStation Store and search for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. You should see a listing for (UPGRADE) PS4 Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut or the same listing but for PS5. If you decide to only upgrade to the PS4 version of Director’s Cut, you’ll lose access to all the exclusive PS5 version features but you can still upgrade later from PS4 Director’s Cut to the PS5 version for an additional $10.
It should be noted that you’ll need to keep the PS4 disc in the drive when you play Director’s Cut or it won’t load up, asking you to insert the disc.
Digital Edition Copy¶
Should you have purchased the Digital Edition of Ghost of Tsushima on the PS4, simply head to the PlayStation Store and search for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. You should see a listing for (UPGRADE) PS4/PS5 Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, purchase this and you’ll gain access to the Director’s Cut features. Unlike the Disc copy of Ghost of Tsushima, there’s no further requirements to access Director’s Cut once you’ve downloaded the PS5 version.
How to Transfer your PS4 Save to PS5 Director’s Cut¶
You can choose to carry your save over from the PS4 verson of Ghost of Tsushima to Director’s Cut on PS5, keeping everything from your current playthrough and even carrying on where you left off with the new features in Director’s Cut. This is far simpler than recent games with this feature (such as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade).
You’ll first need to make sure that your PS4 Save file is backed up to the Cloud via PS Plus. Once that’s done, transfer any saves (you can use multiple) over to your console storage and then boot up Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on the PS5. Once you reach the title screen, you’ll see the Transfer PS4 Console Save option. Select this, and then choose the PS4 save you want to convert, you can only select one at a time but you can keep accessing this option to copy over multiple saves.
