This Tale begins the Iki Island Expansion in Director’s Cut. To begin, you’ll need to load up a save that has progressed beyond Act I of the base game and the first Tale will be added to your journal.
Investigate the Settlement¶
Once you load your game up for the first time, you’ll spot a new category of Tales, Tales of Iki, and this first one alerts Jin about some disturbing trouble at a settlement in Toyotama. Fast Travel over to Akashima Village and make your way west to the shoreline. Once you reach the settlement, you’ll come across a deserted tent near the boat to find two investigate points along with some materials. Just outside to the north of this tent is a Mongol altar, examining this will trigger a scene in which you’ll be introduced to a new threat from Iki Island, the Eagle Tribe Shamans.
Shamans are deadly foes if left alone, their chanting will enhance the attacking prowess of all the other Mongols in the area. For this reason alone, you should prioritize them above all other enemies, either by simply dashing at them and slicing them down or using the bow to shoot them. Make use of this here (and take the time to remember how combat works if it’s been a while since you last played Ghost of Tsushima) and then focus on cutting down the rest of the enemies here. A second group will attack from the north on horseback, another two Shamans will be within this group so consider using Explosive Arrows to quickly deal with them.
Once the area is clear of enemies, take the time to check the nearby house to stock up on ammo along with locating the first Records of Iki. These, much like the Mongol Artefacts, are scattered all over Iki Island and you can discover where to locate them all on this page. Once you’re done with your looting, head towards the Shaman on the ground and interrogate him to learn a bit more about the Eagle. Once you regain control after the scenes, you’ll formally unlock Iki Island, once you’re ready, head over to the boatman and set sail.
Washed Ashore¶
Once you regain control, you’ll be alone on Iki Island, injured, and without your horse. You’ll also lose access to the map momentarily so for now, simply head forward and climb over the wall to reach the other side. A short cave awaits which was one a smuggling hideout, you’ll discover resources here along with another Records of Iki to pocket. Follow the path forward to the other end and pull down the wreckage to leave the cave. This will complete the first Tale and unlock the Iki Island map.
