Putting all of this information together (and after years of research from top Pokémon scientists), this is how you calculate a Pokémon’s precise stats:
CP (Combat Power)¶
As for CP, similar to Pokémon GO, it’s determined from the sum of the Pokémon’s stats. First, it checks the Pokémon’s stats after subtracting their AVs, then it checks their AVs separately. Also, CP is capped at 10,000 although it’s not too difficult to reach it.
Consequences¶
To be clear, you’ll never be expected to remember this formula–there won’t be a surprise exam at the end of this guide, for example (or maybe we’re lying to you). The point is you can gleam some useful information from the formula, if you carefully have a look.
One thing that throws off some fans is the fact that Pokémon don’t really gain stats when they Level Up (in a traditional sense). This can seem confusing at first, because when a Pokémon Levels Up, you see numbers like +1, +2, +3 etc. which makes you think they’re gaining fixed stats.
Instead, what’s really happening is that the Pokémon’s stats are being scaled up to their new Level. This also explains what happens when a Pokémon is set to Level 50 during a multiplayer battle. It’s not that the Pokémon has temporarily had their stats decreased, but rather, their stats have been scaled down.
