Climbing

Just like Drake’s adventures in previous titles, you’ll be guiding Chloe through some pretty risky climbing shenanigans.

If you’re familiar with other Uncharted games, you may recognise that not all obstructions are climbable, and most along the linear path are marked with ledges that are lighter in colour compared to their surroundings. Many handholds are highlighted in yellow during this game to help you find your way.

There are also few ledges that require you to shimmy across rather than jump up to, marked by long scratches across the wall.

Simply navigate the direction you wish to go by using the left analog, and pressing X to repeatedly traverse climbable areas throughout the game.

You will also come into contact with other objects such as ladders, and later in the game you will obtain a piton that acts as an anchor in tougher walls that have no discernable ledges to grab hold of.

Jumping

As to be expected, what with climbing all over the place, there’s a lot of jumping throughout the game. This core function of gameplay goes hand-in-hand with climbing and grappling, and helping you to rope-swing from platforms or large gaps that you simply cannot reach with a simple jump.

To execute a jump, just press X in combination with the left analog to move in the direction you wish to go, and Chloe will jump up handholds, to rope-swing opportunites, and even vault over one object to another. There are even some moments that require zip-lining!

Swimming

To add to the interesting ways in which you can navigate the world of Uncharted, swimming becomes an important part of moving from one area to the next that may not have a door. Why make it that easy, right?

To swim, simply use the left analog to move through the water, and circle to dive beneath the surface. You don’t have unlimited breath, obviously, so make sure to return to the surface when the screen begins to darken so as not to drown Chloe!

Grappling Hook

As mentioned above, the grappling hook is an incredibly useful, and well utilized, tool throughout the game.

Use L1 to attach the hook to things like tree branches that are sticking out of things like walls and cliff-faces, usually marked with white rope tied around them to signify a rope-swing opportunity. When hanging from the rope, use the left analog to move back and forth for more momentum, or hold down L1 and move up or down to climb or descend the rope. Sometimes, if you use the rope close to a wall, you can even wall-run to the next available platform.

There are many moments throughout the game that require this function in order to traverse the area and make it across large gaps that you simply cannot jump to on your own. In some cases, you’ll have to jump from a platform first, quickly followed by pressing L1 to have Chloe throw out the grappling hook in the nick of time!

In most cases, if you miss or time the jump wrong, Chloe will plummet to her death.
