As you Fulton enemies and prisoners to send them back to Mother Base, you will sometimes see that they have skills. When you begin the game, you can’t tell what their stats are when you scan them, which also includes whether they have a skill or not. As you upgrade your binoculars, you will be able to see that they have a skill, but won’t know which one it is until you extract them. It isn’t until the final upgrade that you will finally be able to see the exact skill.
Skills can be divided into two separate groups, those that only work whenever you deploy them in place of Big Boss, and those that work whenever you set them to the right unit back at Mother Base. Sometimes, you will be able to find a particular skill during a mission, with the information being presented in the upper right corner of the screen when you go to select a mission (Obtainable Skills/Blueprints). These particular skills are usually tied to either the main target, an optional objective (prisoner) or someone who is moving with the target.
