This is a short mission that will introduce to you how to run Mother Base, your…well, base of operations from now on. Go over to Ocelot and he’ll begin by introducing you to the Fulton Recovery Device. When you’re out in the field, you can use this to send unconscious enemies back to Mother Base, where they will join your cause and be assigned to one of the teams best suited for them. With later upgrades you can Fulton a variety of other things.
Test it out on the guy right next to you by putting him to sleep with a tranquilizer dart, then holding the button shown for the Fulton device. The staff member you extracted will be assigned to the team best suited to his abilities, which is R&D in this case. Open your iDroid and go to Staff Management on the Mother Base tab to see the guy you just extracted assigned to R&D.
R&D is responsible for developing new weapons and items for you to use in your missions. Choose Development and go to Weapons/Items to see examples, with Ocelot using the cardboard box as one. You can’t make it yet, as each item has requirements, which in this case, the R&D Team level is not high enough. It’s time to have more fun extracting people. Besides putting them to sleep with tranq darts, you can also knock them out using CQC.
Follow the prompts given and then Ocelot will mention that Fulton recovery is not always successful, with it depending on the weather and a few other factors (like being indoors, which always results in 0%). Extract a few more until the Dev team’s level goes up to 1, then head into the item menu to develop that cardboard box. Call it in as a supply drop and you’re pretty much done with this mission.
Go to your iDroid and call in the helicopter to land, then board it so you can head out on your next mission. You get the choice of three missions and you can do them in any order you like. You will also notice that the mission tasks for previously completed missions are now visible on the list. You can replay them, if you choose to do so, to finish those tasks.
