Shattered Memories¶
“This creature, Gollum, is drawn to the Wraith who he calls The Bright Master. Your fate seems bound to his.”
Hirgon and his Outcasts need time to plan their next move, so we might as well find this “Creature” in the meantime. He promised to lead us to some of “The Bright Master’s” memories, and knowing more about the Wraith to which we’re bound might shed some light on our own predicament. Head to the Southern Black Road to start this mission. Talion interrupts the creature as it digs in a burial mound, apparently searching for “ratsies” to eat. The Wraith proves more diplomatic, and convinces the creature into leading us to another relic.
Follow the creature a short distance. He’ll hide from some passing Uruks, and when they’re gone, he’ll advance until he spots some archers. To score a bonus objective, kill the archer (highlighted yellow in Wraith Vision) with a headshot. The creature will advance again and you’ll have to shoot down another archer. Once both of them have arrows in their face, the bonus objective will be secure, and you’ll get to follow the signing creature further. When it finally reaches its destination it’ll stop, and suggest that you finish finding the relic on your own. Switch to Wraith Vision and follow the glowing blue footsteps to locate it. Once you find-and claim-the relic, watch a flashback from the Wraith’s past. Talion will wake up to find the creature pawing at him, and, as usuall, he react poorly. The Bright Master breaks up the altercation and argues with Talion before Gollum suggests that “the Ranger” leave, promising to wait for us at “the Ancient Tower.”
After the creature runs off some Ghuls will pop out of the ground and attack. There’s not much to fighting Ghuls, they aren’t sophisticated opponents and can usually be killed in a single sword strike. They also don’t break Hit Streaks when they attack, and they do paltry damage, but it can add up. When your Hit Streak is charged you’ll be prompted to use a new move, the Wraith Flash (Square + X) to dispose of a number of nearby Ghuls. Once you’ve killed eight of them you’ll be given a reward of 150 Mirian. When they’re all dead, the mission ends. Just slash until your Hit Streak is charged, then use Wraith Flash. Repeat until victorious. After the mission is over the Wraith and Talion will talk, pretty much just to provide some fan service about Gollum’s future actions in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. As usual, you can expect Ghuls to appear round Mordor from now on, and you’ll also automatically learn the Wraith Flash Ability, which allows you to attempt the “Nameless Things” Sword Mission.
Completing this mission also unlocks Hunting Challenge 6 , which tasks us with killing 3 Bats. Bats can be found in caves throughout Mordor… say, perhaps the cave we chased Gollum into earlier during the quest “An Interested Party”? Shoot at them before getting too close to prevent them from leaving their perch on the roof and flying away. The target for Hunting Challenge 7 is the mighty Graug. If you’re lucky you can find one near the Udun Foothills Forge Tower. If you’re even more fortunate, some Uruks might get into a fight with it, weakening it for you. To kill a Graug you’ll need to shoot it in the head until it falls to one knee, which will allow you to run in and score some hits with your sword. Repeat until victorious. If this task is beyond you right now, there’s no shame in leveling up a bit, or just putting it off for later.
