Preparation

This mini-dungeon is much easier if you gather some items beforehand.

We’ll be going Beneath the Well , but the Gibdos guard the way and they only open their paths by trading items. You can get a few of them while you’re beneath the well, but some need to come from outside.

Gather the following items then return to Ikana Canyon, preferably on the First Day:

  • 1 Magic Bean - Purchase at the Southern Swamp
  • 1 Deku Nut - Gather at the Southern Swamp
  • 1 Bomb - Purchase at the Bomb Shop
  • 1 Fish - Western Termina Field has a pool of water.
  • 1 Bottle of Milk - Blow a hole in the hollow log on the way to Southern Swamp. Play Epona’s Song for the cows to receive some Milk.
  • 1 Blue Potion (Optional) - Will lead to Rupees if you desire.
  • 1 Powder Keg (Optional) - To be used immediately after completing the Well.

Getting a Big Poe

Climb into the well at the western side of Ikana Canyon. Put on the Gibdo Mask and enter the next room where you may save your game. Speak with the Gibdo to the east, give him a Magic Bean to progress.

You may collect some Deku Sticks here, but you can ignore the side paths for now. Speak with the Gibdo at the far east and give him a Deku Nut . Stay on the move here, there’s a Wallmaster that will pick you up and return you to the start.

Head down the hall in this new area and speak with the Gibdo at the north, give him a Bomb to progress. Move to the center of this room to fight a Big Poe .

Block when it dashes at you then shoot it with a Fire Arrow. It will take five shots to defeat, bottle it up once you’ve defeated it.

Obtaining the Mirror Shield

Leave the Big Poe room and exit the next room at the west end. Speak with the Gibdo at the north side and give him a Fish to proceed.

In this room you’ll want to go straight ahead and give the Gibdo at the north the Big Poe . In the next room, burn the spiderweb and light the torches if you want. Hit the grass to spawn a Bug, capture it and go back one room temporarily.

Give the other Gibdo here the Bug and enter the small room. Light the torches here and watch out for the invisible Skulltulas, open the chest for a Purple Rupee.

With the Mirror Shield you can enter Ikana Castle at any time.

Exit and go north again, timing your runs past the spiked traps. Give the Gibdo here a Bottle of Milk then enter the next room. Light torches to spawn a chest, inside is the Mirror Shield!

Shine the light onto the Sun Block and then the Sun Face to spawn a ladder. Climb up and into the Ancient Ikana Castle.
