At the beginning of this chapter, you will be at the summer festival and will be talking to your friends about the seven School Mysteries. Before you head off to the school to join your friends, you have access to all of the vendors at the festival, so make sure you make use of that while you can. Also, don’t forget to activate the Mirapo that you find at the festival, as well as any others you find while exploring (like at the entrance to Abandoned Tunnel). Whenever you’re ready to continue, head to the side of the school and talk to Bear, who says you can enter through the side door.

Welcome to the inside of your school at night! The first thing you’ll like notice is that there’s an Eyepo above where you entered, which likely means that the place is full of enemy Yokai. For now, head to the marker and grab the School Keys, triggering a cutscene that will result in your friends being taken away. Well, you know what you need to do inside of the school now. There’s nothing you can do or grab on the first floor yet, so head to the front entrance to find a Mirapo and trigger a cutscene by the stairs leading to the second floor.
Head up to the second floor and check the hallway going north for a chest containing a Bolt Charm . For now, go back down and to the right, entering the science lab, where you’ll have to search for a Yokai. Go to the north end of the room and use your Lens on the skeleton to reveal a Rattelle. It seems that Bear stole one of her ribs and hid it in his homeroom, which is located on this floor. Return to the stairs and it will be in the first room to your right. Bring the rib bone back to Rattelle and not only will she free Bear, but she’ll also join your group!
After the festivities are done, the other door in the room will become unlocked, allowing you to continue through the school to search for your other friends. Go north and into the classroom at the far right to find a chest with A Serious Life inside. Continue west until you spot more stairs, both going up and down. Descend back to the first floor and go through the rooms until you run into a Rank A Watch Lock. Unlock it and head into the room beyond to find a chest with a Hermes Badge in it. With that out of the way, head back upstairs and continue to the third floor.
You’ll find that the path to the right is blocked, so go south and into the second classroom on the right to find a Top Techniques in a chest. Continue to the right, heading north and into the classroom in front of you, then exit the other door to find a chest with a Large Exporb . If you go to the left, you can grab one more chest from the classroom you probably saw when you first came onto the floor; it contains a Reflector . Return to the long hallway and run to the west now until you come to the room with Eddie in it. Check out the piano to reveal a Cupistol, who is questioning his choice of an audience.
He wants you to find some Sheet Music to play so Eddie will go away, so head to the library on the far right of this floor and grab it off the bookshelf on the north side of the room, then return it to the Cupistol. With the door now unlocked, you can go down the stairs, making a slight pitstop on the second floor to grab a chest ( Support Special ) in the first room you see. That’s all on this floor, so head on down to the first and check out the first room for a chest with a Bitter Medicine . When you’re ready, heal up and save, then go into the bathroom where Nate is located to find yourself a nice, big boss Yokai!
BOSS - Tarantutor¶
This boss can be a major pain, due to having to target four parts of Tarantutor’s body before you expose his weak point. At the beginning of the battle, the boss will be on the ceiling and will deal out his attacks from there. If you leave your Yokai alone, you will notice that they will attack his feet, which is what you will want to do. Target each foot with a pin and once you deal enough damage, it will turn green, which is your cue to go after another foot. Once all four of his feet are green, Tarantutor will fall to the ground and his belly will be exposed, letting you finally hurt this Yokai. After some time passes, he will go back onto the ceiling and the cycle will start anew.
As for his attacks, he has a normal physical attack against one Yokai, as well as a lightning attack in the form of Flashlight Beam . Poison Brew will attack a single target, but it also has a chance of inspiriting the enemy with poison, decreasing their HP each turn. He can also inflict another inspirit with the move Spider Silk , which is single target, but the most annoying move is definitely Spiderweb , a move that can inspirit your entire front row (both make it so the inflicted Yokai can’t move). His Soultimate attack, Webbing Blitz , hits all of your front row Yokai for lightning damage (multiple hits).
The battle against Tarantutor can definitely be a challenge, due to him always inspiriting your Yokai, and it’s pretty much a battle of attrition and managing the inspirits. If you did the one Request earlier that had you befriending Enefly and Enerfly, then fusing them together will result in a Betterfly. Not only is she a good healer, but she cannot be inspirited, so you would not have to worry about her. If you have Yokai with a multi-target Soultimate, use it on the legs, then try to pile on as much damage as possible when Tarantutor is on the ground, since you don’t have to worry about attacks.
After the battle is over (and likely with a buttload of XP thanks to all of the Inspirits), head up to the roof to watch the fireworks with your friends, bringing an end to this chapter.
