Final Fantasy IX

Eiko Carol

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Eiko hails from the summoner village, Madain Sari, where she lives with a bunch of Moogles, including her best friend, Mog, who is always with her. She falls for Zidane on their first meeting, trying to impress him through various means, although she knows that Zidane and Dagger are in love with each other. Despite her age and separation from real society, Eiko is quite spunky and picky about certain things, although that separation does show her loneliness at times.

As the other white mage in the group, Eiko performs those duties much better than Dagger, as she has access to more useful spells as a support class. She is also a summoner, but she doesn’t learn as many of them, so she might not be outputting as much damage as Dagger. Note that depending on the Add-On equipped, some of Eiko’s summons will change what they do. Similar to Vivi and his Trance enabling two Black Magic spells in a single turn, Eiko’s Trance is Dbl Wht, allowing her to cast two white magic spells in a single turn.

It was already mentioned that depending on the Add-On equipped, Eiko’s eidolons will perform a different attack. The only two this pertains to is Fenrir and Carbuncle. Fenrir’s normal attack is earth-elemental, but with the Maiden Prayer equipped, Fenrir will deal wind-elemental damage. Carbuncle’s normal summon will cast Reflect on the entire party, but there are three other moves it can do, depending on Eiko’s equipment. A Diamond will make Carbuncle cast Vanish on the party, a Emerald will have it cast Haste, and a Moonstone will have Carbuncle cast Shell on the entire party. Lastly, while Phoenix doesn’t change with any equipment, when Eiko is in the immediate party and everyone is KO’ed, there is a chance for Phoenix to revive the entire party. This is dependent on the number of Phoenix Pinions in your inventory, but the max chance (99 Pinions)is around 39%.

A group known as the Tantalus Theatre Troupe visits the kingdom of Alexandria to celebrate the birthday of Princess Garnet. Unbeknownst to the royal family and the citizens of the city, the troupe is actually a band of thieves, who are aiming to kidnap the princess. However, to add a twist, the princess was planning on escaping the castle all along, even asking the troupe to “kidnap” her. This little event kickstarts many others, leading to a grand adventure.

This guide is planned to have a beginning-to-end walkthrough of the main story, while simultaneously guiding you through all of the side quests and other goodies in the game. The side quests include Chocobo Hot and Cold, Tetra Master, and all of the smaller ones, like the jump rope mini-game, Friendly Monsters, Excalibur II, and much more. In addition to all of this, you will find lists of all abilities that characters can learn, as well as Quina’s Blue Magic.

  • Beginning-to-end walkthrough, covering all story elements
  • Coverage on all side quests, from major to minor ones
  • How to learn all abilities, including Quina’s Blue Magic
  • Detailed trophy/achievement guide
