There are a variety of enemies (17 to be exact) in Helldivers 2 and they are separated into two categories: the Terminids and the Automatons. Tanks are part of the Automatons and they can be found on Automaton Planets at the Hard or above difficulty. On this page, we’ll guide you through the necessary steps for finding Tanks and defeating them!
Tanks are one of the toughest Automaton enemies in the game.
Helldivers 2 Tank Locations¶
There are Major Orders which are updated regularly in Helldivers 2 and the objective will typically require you take down a specific type of enemy multiple times. Tanks have a chance to be the objective of the day, and these are one of the tougher obstacles that you’ll come across when when taking on Automaton forces. They have a chance of spawning via Dropships on the harder difficulties of Automaton Controlled Planets, which are highlighted as red on the galactic war map.
Best Strategy For Defeating Tanks in Helldivers 2¶
These are heavily armored and come equipped with weapons that can deal a lot of damage, so you’ll want to make sure you come prepared with the correct stratagems, weapons and armor before attempting to take them on. Before diving into a mission where you may stumble across a tank, we recommend that you unlock and equip the Railgun due to its armor piercing potential, and explosive stratagems such as the Eagle Cluster Bomb or the Orbital 380MM Barrage. If you’re not playing with others then you’ll want other targets for the tank to focus on, so you’ll want to bring along some of the turret stratagems (preferably the Autocannon Sentry).
Once you’re prepared as well as you can be and come across a tank, you’ll want to scatter the turrets in various locations to distract it and then find some cover and throw all the explosive stratagems you’ve got available to weaken it. From here, you’ll want to make your way around to the rear of the tank and focus on penetrating the vents with your Railgun. However, this will require you to get close to the tank which will increase your chance of being hit, so we recommend that you use the Shield Generator Relay to temporarily make you immune to all incoming fire.
