Pokémon Black and White start in a very traditional manner, with a Professor, a couple of young trainers, and some Pokémon in need of a trainer.
Once through the Professor’s rehearsed spiel about how important Pokémon are to the world at large you’ll be whisked away to start your character’s journey in their bedroom, where you’ll have a chat with your two friends Bianca and Cheren, before choosing your starting Pokémon…
You have a choice of three creatures-
This little oinker will give you a good start to a team, strong against as many gym leaders as he’s weak against, the fact he evolves into a Fire/Fighting type is as much a curse as a help.
Good water type Pokémon are notably hard to come by in Black & White, making Oshawott a wise choice of starter. Only one gym will really give Oshawott any trouble, making him a very solid choice.
This smug creature is most effective throughout the half way area of the game, but will need help to tackle the later gyms as Grass types start to suffer later on.
Once you’ve chosen your creature you’ll notice Bianca and Cheren take the other Pokémon, Bianca’s will be weak to you while Cheren’s will be strong against yours.
Trainer Battle: Bianca¶
Pokemon | Level | Type | Note |
---|---|---|---|
Snivy | 5 | Grass | Only if you picked Tepig |
Tepig | 5 | Fire | Only if you picked Oshawott |
Oshawott | 5 | Water | Only if you picked Snivy |
Trainer Battle: Cheren¶
Pokemon | Level | Type | Note |
---|---|---|---|
Oshawott | 5 | Water | Only if you picked Tepig |
Snivy | 5 | Grass | Only if you picked Oshawott |
Tepig | 5 | Fire | Only if you picked Snivy |
You’ll now have your introduction to combat, however your Pokémon won’t be that equipped so simply ‘Tackle’ your way through the encounters.
