Quest Information | . |
---|---|
Location: | Terra 2 - Emerald Vale - Outside of Edgewater |
How to Start: | Talk to Vicar Maximilian |
Find Vicar Max in the Edgewater church of Scientism and he’ll ask you to find a heretical book for him.
Leave town via Edgewater’s northwestern gate and follow the road through the ruins outside of Edgewater’s walls and when you reach a fork turn east. Be wary of marauders along the road as you’ll likely have to dispatch a group at the fork, then further up the road near a cluster of buildings, one of which is your current destination. You can avoid both groups of marauders, if you wish, just give the ones on the road a wide berth, and use some boxes along the southern end of the buildings to the right to reach the roof then find a door into the interior.
Whether you sneak or fight your way in, work your way to the ground floor of the building the quest marker leads to and search a back room to find a datapad which indicates that the books you’re looking for have been relocated to a “cave over by the river”.
From the Edgewater bridge leading to the southwestern gate, follow a river north/northwest to find a cave. Continue into the cave and look out for a side cavern to the northwest, where you’ll spot some traps on the floor. Blow them up with gunfire, then loot a locked safe [Lockpick 5] to find the Journal of M. Bakonu.
Return to Vicar Max in Edgewater and give him the book he seeks, only to witness his tantrum when he finds out that it is written in, of all things, French. Crazy gibberish! He’ll reveal that the entire reason he came to Edgewater was to find this book, which he holds in obvious contempt. Now that he’s achieved what he wanted (well, kind of…) he no longer has a reason to stay here anymore, and will in fact offer his services as a crewmember so he can make use of your ship to get off this rock and find a translator. Accept and he’ll join your party… or rather, wait for you on your ship.
Although you can’t actually make use of Vicar Max until you leave Emerald Vale for the first time, he’ll be waiting for you on your ship when you finish up business here.
