There are a number of uses for blood in Conan Exiles, from enriching regular compost in order to craft Potent Compost, to crafting various potions, war paints, and tomes. It’s rare to find blood as a base component when looting in the open world, but you can extract it from things like Human Flesh using a Fluid Press, or from Severed Arms / Severed Legs using a Grinder. In theory, you should be able to extract blood from the bodily remains of most creatures, but there are some exceptions. On this page, we’ll detail every creature that is known to provide blood from its components, and we’ll also cover the recipes that require blood.
Where to Find Blood in Conan Exiles¶
There are two main methods that you can use to consistently produce blood for your crafting needs. To get them set up, you’ll need to build a Fluid Press and a Grinder. We’ll discuss the details of exactly what you’ll need to do this below, but it’s also worth mentioning that you can obtain blood from Blood-Sacs, which are sometimes found as loot in treasure chests from humanoid camps. Alternatively, you may be lucky enough to get one of these as loot from an exotic creature. The only catch here is that they don’t always contain regular Blood. They can also contain Demon Blood or Black Blood.
Build a Fluid Press¶
The fluid press provides the most reliable method for extracting blood from body parts. To build it, you’ll need 50 Shaped Wood, 10 Twine, and 10 Iron Bars. Once you have the fluid press, you can venture out into the wilderness and hunt all kinds of creatures for their body parts. However, not all body parts from creatures will provide blood when they’re placed into the Fluid Press. One of the most common body parts that will always provide blood is Human Flesh, so we recommend specifically hunting for any humanoid camps near your base.
As a general rule, you can expect to reliably extract blood from any creature so long as you loot their head, carcass, and some rarer body parts such as the liver. For anything else, your best bet is to place it in the grinder and see what happens. You can always place anything you obtain from creatures in both crafting stations, just to see what happens, since you have nothing to lose by testing.
Build a Grinder¶
The grinder is one of the most basic crafting stations that you can build. It requires 50 Bricks and 10 Branches, and you can use it to grind all sorts of resources to produce useful crafting materials. Among these are different types of bone, which you can place in the grinder to produce Bonemeal. The same can be done with various severed limbs such as Severed Arms or Severed Legs, and you’ll have a small chance of producing blood each time you place one in the grinder.
This method isn’t as reliable as the fluid press for producing blood, but it’s nice to have on the go whenever you need to produce as much blood as possible. You might as well be throwing all the body parts you obtain into both the fluid press and the grinder, just to see what you can get.
What Can Blood Be Used For?¶
One of the most important uses for blood comes in the form of Potent Compost. You can read more about the uses of this rare resource on our How to Make Potent Compost page. In the simplest terms, it allows you to grow some of the rarer plants in the game, such as Lotus Flowers, which in turn are used in recipes for crafting powerful potions. These potions can be used to improve your effectiveness in battle, either by providing healing, boosting your stamina capacity, or temporarily buffing your damage output, so they’re well worth having a stockpile of whenever you’re thinking about going to a dungeon or otherwise engaging in difficult fights.
Other than the potions mentioned above, you can also use blood to craft basic food items such as Blood Sausage, which itself will restore some of your health and reduce your hunger. There are also cosmetic recipes such as different types of warpaint that require blood, and even tomes that provide sorcery knowledge. In short, you’re likely to find a need for blood for as long as you’re leveling up in the first phases of the game, so you’ll want to make sure that you have the essential crafting stations - the fluid press and grinder - ready to go. With that said, don’t forget that there’s always a chance for you to find Blood-Sacs, either from creatures or treasure chests, along the way, so it’s always worth looting everything you come across.
