This page is your number one guide for all things Star Metal in Conan Exiles. From Meteor Shower locations to Boss drops to crafting Star Metal Bars, we’ve got you covered. Learn how to easily farm Star Metal and how to use it to make Star Metal bars that can then be used to make powerful gear.
How to Farm Star Metal Ore: Meteor Shower Locations¶
Star Metal Ore can be obtained from either dismantling weapons and items dropped by certain enemies or by mining the meteors that drop during meteor shower events. Meteor showers only occur in certain areas though and they’re not exactly the most common event either, with one typically happening once an hour.
A Meteor Shower event is quite obvious when it is happening, but it’s also short-lived so you’ll need to make sure to keep your eyes to the sky! You’ll see a series of huge cloud plumes plummeting from the sky. As soon as you see them, you’ll be able to head over to the direction of the shower, to find shiny dark metal rocks on the ground. The number of meteors in a shower varies from around 5 to 15 and so you have a good chance of being able to mine lots of Star Metal from a single meteor shower event!
That being said, Meteor Showers only happen in certain locations, which we have outlined below:
Exiled Lands: Meteor Showers¶
Meteor Showers will only occur in the snowy region in the Northwest. Your best bet is to head northeast of the Mounds of the Dead to the area around Frostneedle Forest and then set up a small camp to wait for the Meteor Shower.
Isle of Siptah: Meteor Showers¶
On the Isle of Siptah, Meteor Showers will only occur around The Tower at the center of the Isle. The Tower is a hostile place and is also subjected to another event called Maelstrom, which makes enemies spawn from lightning. You may have a hard time setting up a base close to The Tower since there are so many enemies around!
How to Mine Meteors¶
Once you’ve witnessed a meteor shower and found one on the ground, you’ll be able to mine it for some Star Metal! However, mining meteors to obtain Star Metal is no easy feat. Before you can even reach the star metal inside the meteor, you’ll need to destroy the dark metal exterior using some sort of explosive.
This could be an Explosive Jar, Exploding Trap, Explosive Arrow, or Demon-fire Orb. Many players have reported that the meteor’s exterior is sometimes not cracked open even with an explosion. This tends to happen most frequently with Explosive Jars or Traps and is typically down to the explosions not being close enough (even though it looks like it should be!).
How to Make Explosives¶
To make Explosive Jars, you’ll a Construction Hammer and x1 Earthenware Jug, x5 Tar, and x1 Dragon Powder. Tar is easily obtained as a byproduct from turning Hide into Leather at the Tannery. Dragon Powder is a bit harder to come by and is made at the Firebowl Cauldron using x2 Demon Blood, x10 Brimstone, x50 Crystals, and x100 Steelfire - quite an expensive recipe!
Explosive Arrows are also reasonably hard to come by. They’re made at a Carpenter’s Bench using x1 Ironhead Arrow, x5 Tar, x1 Dragonpowder, and x4 Feathers. We recommend Explosive Arrows over Explosive Jars because you get 10 arrows (so 10 explosives) from 1 dragon powder.
Once you’ve exploded the outer shell of the meteor, you’ll reveal the glowing blue Star Metal within. But you’ll now need a Tier 4 or higher pick to obtain the ore! You’ll get a fair bit of ore from one meteor and you should also find multiple meteors after a shower.
What Pick Can Mine Star Metal?¶
The following pickaxes can mine Star Metal:
- Hardened Steel Pick
- Black Ice Pick
- Star Metal Pick
- Eldarium Pick
- Obsidian Pick
- Black Blood Pick
- Star Metal Pickaxe
- Eldarium Pick-axe
- The Pecker
- Mass Cull
We recommend the Hardened Steel Pick or the Black Ice Pick as the materials are reasonably easy to get hold of. Head over to our guide on how to make Hardened Steel Bars for more information!
What Enemies Drop Star Metal?¶
If you’re having trouble with meteor showers spawning, you can also get some Star Metal from certain enemies. Cimmerian enemies in particular have a high chance of carrying some sort of Star Metal weapon. You can then place the weapons in a dismantling bench to return 40% of the materials, which will include Star Metal bars!
Frost Giants used to have a chance of dropping Star Metal, but this seems to have been patched out. You can now really only obtain Black Ice and Ice from Frost Giants, so we recommend going for the Cimmerian Camps near the Mounds of the Dead (Exiled Lands)!
So, if you’re kitted out, a great strat for farming Star Metal quickly would be to hang around the Mounds of the Dead to fight the Cimmerian enemies. And whilst you’re there, you can keep an eye out for Meteors and then make your way over to the crash sites - it’s a win-win!
How to Make Star Metal Bars¶
Once you’ve obtained some Star Metal ore, you’ll also need to grab yourself some Black Ice and Brimstone. You can use our maps to find Black Ice and Brimstone in both Siptah and Exiled Lands! We also have a detailed guide on Brimstone.
After grabbing those materials, you’ll need to find yourself a furnace and place x2 Star Metal, x1 Brimstone, and x1 Black Ice inside. It’ll take 20s to make a single Star Metal Bar, but once you’ve got a good stock of them, you’ll be able to start making higher-tier gear and weapons!
