Golden Cicada Shells in Wo Long are a type of collectible where obtaining all 20 of them is the requirement for the Ascension trophy/achievement as well as being part of the Hunting the Great Deer trophy/achievement. The first one you can find is in the second mission, Two Chivalrous Heroes. This page will guide you to where you can find this mysterious item as well as what they’re used for.
Where to Find the Golden Cicada Shell in Two Chivalrous Heroes¶
You’ll have to progress the mission until you defeat the first boss as the Shell is near the end of the stage. After you defeat the first boss and after you’ve activated the Battle Flag. Follow the path until you reach an open area. There are a few enemies here to defeat before you head on. One enemy can be found below you, one on the stairs at the other end of the area, and one behind the small broken wall to the left. After you’ve defeated the enemies, continue onwards into the small building to your right where you’ll find a high-morale enemy to take care of. Behind him is a Dragon Crystal for you to pick up.
Exit the building from the other side, and follow the path up to your left. Be careful of the log that will get kicked down from the top as it can deal a fair bit of damage. Continue until you reach the scaffolding to your left, and climb up it to reach the top wooden platform. The Golden Cicada Shell can be found at the end of the wooden ledge sticking out from the scaffolding.
What are Golden Cicada Shells?¶
If you get this during your first run through the mission, you may be wondering what this item does. As stated above, it is needed for mission completion which correlates with the trophies and achievements, but it has a further use. After you progress through a few missions, you’ll unlock a hub-type area called “Hidden Village”. This place has a few side quests you can get with one of them being to give the Golden Cicada Shells to an NPC there. You can find the NPC atop the watchtower on the eastern side of the village, but you’ll need to climb some vines to reach him.
Every time you hand him a specific amount of shells, he’ll reward you with an item. For example, you’ll get three elixirs when trading him three shells. The more you give him, the better the rewards.
