The Tarnhelm is a classic, adorning the heads of casters and MFers since Diablo 2 first released. It’s also an exemplar of the fact that not all good equipment is segregated until late game - a feature more loot-grind ARPGs should bring back. Anyways, the Tarnhelm does two things worth mentioning: +1 to All Skills and +25-50% Magic Find. The variation in the latter used to affect its value somewhat, but now it’s generally recognized as a placeholder until you can find something better… like the Harlequin Crest. Still, if you happen to stumble across one of these sometime in Normal difficulty, you might not need to replace it for quite a while.
Despite its low iLv - or rather, because of it - Tarnhelm can be somewhat difficult to find in later difficulties. And since there’s little incentive to farm Normal difficulty, you might never see this old helmet.
