Dragon's Dogma 2

A Place to Call Home Walkthrough

By
Scott Peers

The "A Place to Call Home" iconA Place to Call Home quest in "Dragon" iconDragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the simplest in the game, but you’ll need to wait for at least one week in-game before you can complete it. You also won’t be able to obtain it unless you bump into the right person within "Vernworth" iconVernworth, the capital city of Vermund. This quest is well worth picking up as soon as you get to Vernworth, especially since it allows you to purchase your own home that you can use to sleep in for free, saving you money in the long run, while also giving you a reliable place to store and withdraw items. On this page, we’ll show you where to find Mildred, the NPC who gives you the quest, and tell you all you need to know about how to prepare for completing it when she returns to Vernworth.

The A Place to Call Home Quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 allows you to purchase your own home.

Where to Find Mildred in Vernworth

As mentioned above, to begin this quest you’ll first need to reach Vernworth, the capital city of Vermund, which you’ll do naturally as you follow the progression of the main story. When you arrive in Vernworth, there are several objectives that you’ll need to attend to, not least of which is acquainting yourself with Captain Brant, who will be your main ally in the city for a while. Once you’ve spoken with him and familiarized yourself with the basics of the city, you can begin to explore it for more quests. A Place to Call Home should be first on your list of priorities here, mostly because you need to wait for a week in-game after starting it before it can be completed.

To start A Place to Call Home, you need to speak with Mildred, who can be found near the entrance to the slums within the city, just southeast of the Merchant Quarter, or directly southeast of "The Stardrop Inn" iconThe Stardrop Inn, as seen in the screenshot below. She’ll be standing next to a few baskets of fruits and vegetables, and she should call you over as you pass by. However, if she doesn’t be sure to speak with her first.

When you speak with Mildred for the first time, she’ll tell you that she’s in a bit of a quandary. Apparently, she needs to leave the city for a week, but there’s nobody around to look after her house while she’s away. As a result, she’ll ask if you can look after the house for her, and in return you’ll get to sleep there for free. Although it sounds like there could be a catch when she mentions that she wants to put your name on the tenant list, you can rest assured that this won’t turn into a fraudulent scheme. You can trust Mildred, just as she trusts you.

Location of Mildred’s House

After speaking with Mildred, you need to meet her outside her house nearby. The easiest way to find it from where you first met her is by heading up the road to the northeast until you reach the first turning on your right (heading east). Go down the steps directly ahead and you’ll find Mildred just outside the house here. All you need to do at this point is speak with her to accept her request, then she’ll leave you for a week, and you’ll have a free place to stay in the meantime.

Should You Buy Mildred’s House?

When Mildred returns after a week has passed in-game (which you’ll need to bring about by sleeping, and you can now do that from the bed in her house for free), she’ll ask if you want to buy the house from her for 20,000 gold. If you spent much of the week adventuring and completing other quests, you should have at least 40,000 gold by this point, so you might as well buy it from her. However, don’t worry if you haven’t got enough gold; you can always return to her in the same spot (just outside her house) when you do.

It’s worth noting that there’s no obligation to purchase the house, and you don’t necessarily need to if you’d rather not. You can still sleep for free by finding a campfire out in the wilderness, or you can pay 1-2k gold at various inns in cities and towns if you’re desperate. Still, having a place to call your own inside the walls of Vernworth is no bad thing when you consider that you can sleep there without the threat of monsters attacking, and you’ll have ready access to storage there, too.

It’s also worth noting that if you purchase Mildred’s house, various NPCs will be able to leave you gifts or letters there. You can often find these just to the right of the door before you walk in, so be sure to return to the house regularly after completing quests to check if anything has been sent to you. With all that said, this isn’t the only opportunity to purchase a house in Vernworth, but it is by far the cheapest. If you want to upgrade, you can speak with an NPC named Sulvatore, who can be found in the Noble Quarter at the location shown in the image above. However, purchasing a house from him will cost you 200,000 gold, so it’s a much larger investment.
