The BBQ Spill in grounded is one of the end-game mini-biomes players will encounter. The area is filled with Tier 3 enemies, along with a variety of tier 3 resources. Players will want to come here to get some important items to improve their base and character. However, the biome has a sandbox-like hazard and is very dangerous, even when not in combat. This Grounded BBQ Spill and Charcoal Hot Springs guide will offer tips for everything important that players need to know about this biome, along wth findsing important collectables.
BBQ Spill Location¶
The location of BBQ spill is found in the upper grasslands area. Players need to take the Upper Yard Ascend to climb up here, using an explosive to blow up the rock blocking the pathway up. Once you’re up, the BBQ spill is from the northwest point. You can find the exact location in this screenshot.
Once you arrive at the location, you will notice the area is similar to the Sandbox. Players will start frying in the heat of the BBQ spill, and will take damage from the status effect. The best way to survive the area is by having yourself the Antlion armor set on, which reduces the damage you take from warm biomes. You will also need to consume the Quesadillantlion. This food grants sizzle protection, once again lowering the damage and risk you face when navigating through the BBQ Spill and the Charcoal Hot Springs. Lastly, you can also use the Fresh Defence Mutation, which grants reduced sizzle depending on its level.
BBQ Spill Collectables¶
Now you’ve arrived at the BBQ Spill, there are a few main things you can do in this area. These features include:
- Farm Ladybird Larva
- Mine Charcoal
- Unlock the Guardog Mutagen and Spicy Coaltana
- Collect Milk Molars
- Collect Raw Science
- Buried Treasure
Milk Molar¶
There are three Milk Molars you can find in the BBQ area, with the locations as follows:
- Mega Milk Molar 1 - Behind the hot coals in the BBQ Grill
- Mega Milk Molar 2 - Underneath the BBQ lid, guarded by a Wolf Spider
- Milk Molar - In the discarded Charcoal bag to the right of the BBQ spill
Raw Science:¶
There are three Raw Science pickups you can acquire in the BBQ Spill and Charcoal Hot Springs area, which are:
- 500 - Underneath the BBQ lid
- 500 - The eastern BBQ leg.
- 500 - The light stands near the charcoal bag.
Ladybird Larva:¶
The Ladybird Larva has two weaknesses: stabbing weapon and the fresh element type. The ideal weapon is to use a spear weapon, along with the fresh modifier. However, it is expensive to upgrade a spear to level 5 and then make it fresh, so feel free to use either a stabbing weapon or mint weapon of preference if you do not want to be as optimal against the enemies in this biome. You can also opt to mint arrows if you so wish
Charcoal:¶
There are plenty of mineable charcoal rocks in the BBQ Spill and Charcoal Hot Springs. It is one of the more reliable ways to get EverChar Coal Chunks, which is a natural resource used in plenty of base buildings items, and more. Players will need it to create Ovens, create Ever Burning Torches, creating Charcoal Ash, which is an ingredient that helps make the best base walls in the game, and more.
To mine Charcoal, you will need a Tier 2 hammer, or above, so you will need the Insect Hammer or Blak Ox Hammer to get the parts from it.
Spicy Coaltana and Guard Dog Mutation¶
The Spicy Coaltana recipe can be unlocked alongside the Guard Dog mutation from the fiery katana in the stone. This is located inside the Charcoal bag to the northeast of the Charcoal Hot Springs. Once you find a way inside the bag, you can interact with the Katana, which activates a defense mission. Players will need to defends the Katana for a set period of time, with waves of Ladybird Lava coming to attack it and yourself.
The best way to do is this is by preparing plenty of medicines, using either stabbing or mint weapons, and maybe even using a few grenades or two when the enemies start building up onto specific locations. Once you’re successful, you will get the Guard Dog mutation and the recipe for the sword. The Guard Dog mutation is even more useful for players who like to do these wave defense missions from the MIXR Modules.
Buried Treasure¶
Like the sandbox, there are buried treasures players can acquire by using a tier 2 shovel on certain spots in the ash. Look for gleaming yellow dots in the ash, and you will be able to dig up treasure. There are not many spots, and we found the best time for glinting was in the morning. The loot varies depending on RNG, but players can expect the following rewards.
- Salt Shards
- Spicy Shards
- Mints
- Gum
- Sunken Bone
- Crow Feathers.
