As you adventure throughout the game, you will undoubtedly stumble across what looks like a portal in some areas. These portals lead to a mysterious place called the Cathedral of Oblivion, where you will encounter challenging enemies, although when you first enter, you have the option to leave. However, once you commit to going through the next portal inside of the Cathedral, you will either have to finish the gauntlet or die trying…literally.
What’s so special about the Cathedral of Oblivion? First of all, the Cathedral houses some exclusive Bestiary entries that you won’t find anywhere else. Also, at the end of every gauntlet, you will find a chest that usually contains a nice piece of equipment. Note that the chest is only closed the first time you go through for each instance, so subsequent visits will not net you more of the same equipment.
The above paragraph might sound a bit confusing, so here is some elaboration on that. As you progress in the main story, the enemies inside of the Cathedral portals will change, meaning that it’s possible to miss out on some of them because of that. Luckily, there’s only two points in the main story where this will happen. At the end of each instance, you will fight a boss-like monster and there will be multiple entries for each one, as they are all different levels across all instances. For example, the first boss you will face is called Eyebalone and there are three entries for that one, since there are three portals where you fight different-leveled ones.
Changes to Portals¶
As already mentioned, the enemies and bosses inside the portals will change a total of two times as you progress in the main story. If you’re going to go after the platinum trophy or just want to have a 100% bestiary, then you’re going to need to pay attention as to when these changes occur. This is because the bosses inside of the portals are counted as separate entries. For example, you can fight the Eyebalone three different times and there are separate entries for all three of them, distinguishable by their levels.
The key points as to when the enemies will change occur at the following points:
- First change is after the invasion on Trei’kur
- Second change is right after visiting the Symbological Facility Prime for the second time
