It’s rare to find an RPG these days without some kind of multiplayer or co-op mode or functionality. But there are still rare exceptions, especially when it comes to storied franchises that are known for being single-player. When it comes to Dragon’s Dogma 2, the long-awaited sequel to the original game, what is the plan for how you can play it? Is there Dragon’s Dogma 2 multiplayer, Dragon’s Dogma 2 co-op, or is it a strictly single-player experience like its predecessor?
Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 have multiplayer co-op?¶
Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not have any multiplayer or co-op functionality. It is purely a single-player RPG, despite having AI partners you fight alongside called Pawns. You can hire your friend’s Pawns in your playthrough when you come across them in the open world, which allows them to fight alongside you.
The lack of multiplayer has been confirmed multiple times ahead of the game’s launch by Capcom, including in the Capcom Showcase 2023, which you can watch in full here. And, after playing for ourselves, the game does not have any active multiplayer.
There is also very little chance of the game getting any multiplayer or co-op functionality down the line either as Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a complex game with a lot going on and trying to incorporate multiplayer into the RPG with all the different questlines, outcomes, and permutations of scenarios would be a hard task and take a lot of time and development resources.
Either way, Dragon’s Dogma is known for its mystery and discovery and you will undoubtedly still have tons of unique moments while playing its sequel. You can read all about those moments in our Dragon’s Dogma 2 review.
