When you get the Carpenter in Enshrouded, the Kiln is one of the first things you’ll want to build. Unfortunately, it needs Clay as one of its main resources, and you wouldn’t have come across it yet unless you’ve been exploring the world. Although Clay is used in the recipe for the Kiln, it also has other uses, such as the Half-Timbered Block recipe. Read on to find out where you can find Clay, and what the best early-game locations for it are.
Where to Find Clay in Enshrouded¶
Although the game doesn’t specify resources in tiers, Clay would be what you consider the second tier of resources alongside Copper Ore, Indigo Plants, Flax, and many more. This means you’ll need to explore more before you come across any, more specifically, heading north into Revelwood. So, in short, head to Revelwood for Clay.
Best Clay Farm in Enshrouded¶
A great place to farm Clay is around the desolate village of Diadwyn, which is west of the Revelwood Ancient Spire. We recommend placing a flame altar in Diadwyn as there are a lot of valuable resources around there, while another great spot is near the Hidden Hunting Grounds southeast of the spire. Follow these steps for the Diadwyn Farm Spot:
Steps For Farming Clay Near Diadwyn¶
1. Craft a Flame Altar anywhere in Diadwyn as you’ll be fast traveling back to this point.
2. Head west from Diadwyn until you reach the mountain, follow that south, and you’ll find a grassy hill leading up, where you’ll find the first Clay node.
3. Go up the muddy slope to the north (right of the clay) and you’ll find some ruins. Continue north up the slope to find the second node on top of the cliff.
4. From the last node, head around the mountain to reach a forested area and follow that southwest toward the Ancient Obelisk. When you reach the obelisk, the clay can be found on the large rock beside the abandoned camp. You can also sleep here if it’s night.
5. Fast travel back to Diadwyn. Exit the village via the southeast, and you will shortly find a tall rock containing a decent amount of clay.
6. Finally, fast travel back to Diadwyn again, but this time head northwest where you’ll find another clay node at the side of the mountain.
Steps for Farming Clay near the Hidden Hunting Grounds¶
The Hidden Hunting Grounds is another great place to farm Clay. Hidden Hunting Grounds can be found southeast of the Spire, and the Clay itself can be found one on the strips of land between the mountains west of the hunting grounds, and the shroud further west. The clay will be about halfway through the area. Here are the steps to farm it:
1. Fast travel from the Ancient Spire - Revelwood.
2. Glide southeast across the Shroud.
3. Run southeast through the forest while skirting the Shroud. You’ll eventually come to the side of a mountain.
4. Next to the mountain is a large rock column with Clay on it. Use the nearby ledges to get the stuff at the top. If you reached the cave, backtrack a bit and you’ll see the column on your left.
5. Follow the side of the mountains south, and you’ll come across a smallish deposit on the floor, near the edge of the cliff. It will be east of the Elixir Well on the map. This deposit is larger than it looks as it goes quite deep, so make sure you don’t just mine the surface.
There you have it, this should give you more than enough Clay for a while. You can and will find Clay in many places from now on, but this is one of the better earlier locations where you’ll find it. Note, if you’re solo, you can exit to the menu, and log back in to find that all these spots will be respawned.
