When you enter the now-not-very-calm Calm Lands, you’ll see a number of hovercraft about: one in the southwest portion, in the north-central portion, and one in the northeast portion. These are used to represent different companies and, at each, the person on the left represents Open Air while the person on the right represents Argent.
This is all a part of the “publicity”, as it were, mission in the game. Essentially, once you choose to represent a certain company, you can then speak with other people throughout the world using the Square button to pique their interest in the company. You will have to do this to a lot of people to get the company’s publicity level up to Level 5, which will get you to the 100%-completion mark.
There’s also a similar sidequest from the travel agency in the middle of the Calm Lands. A man there is looking for a wife for his son, and, essentially, you find her the same way - press Square in front of women and tell them something that appeals to them about the man needing the wife. If it matters at all, this mission doesn’t seem to contribute to 100% completion, and it’ll span multiple chapters.
There are also a few easy-to-spot treasures around here: in the South Calm Lands there’s an Ether; two Chocobo Feathers can be found in the large central area; a Phoenix Down is nestled **** in the northern area; there’s two Potions to the northeast of the Calm Lands at the bridge and finally, a Phoenix Down is hidden at the bottom of the gorge which you can access from there. That’s about it for now.
