The General is essentially a giant meat shield and on the battlefield will function as such, complemented with high Strength to hit back as it protects your army. Its skillset is completely designed to mitigate the turtle slow Speed you get in exchange. Wary Fighter is the best skill a General could ever hope for. With such low Speed, they’ll never be doubling up on anyone, and this skill is a way to bring every other unit down to their level and make them that much harder to kill.

Pavise builds further upon a General’s Defense and if a unit has access to the General class, this class is worth dropping by if only to pick up Pavise (but be sure to unequip Wary Fighter if said unit is going to be in a fast class later). Pavise, unlike Aegis, counters some of the more common weapon types except magic, so you’ll likely see it coming into use more often.
