Stomping Grounds¶
Objective: Hunt a Yian Kut-Ku
Location: Jurassic Frontier
Subquest: Deliver 2 Ancient Berries
Notes: Yian Kut-Ku is another new large monster, and your very first actual flying monster you will challenge! The cute little bird awaits your challenge in area 5. Instead of walking from area to area as you have seen, Yian Kut-Ku will fly, so be sure to bring Paintballs or else suffer having to guess where the critter flew off to. Yian Kut-Ku can spit fireballs so if your armor is weak to fire, be super careful. Roll three times or roll once in water to get rid of Fireblight (or consume a Nulberry).
You’ll need to complete this quest plus “Crustacean Frustration” to unlock a key quest “Tumultuous Sprouts”.
Crustacean Frustration¶
Objective: Hunt a Daimyo Hermitaur
Location: Dunes
Subquest: Slay 8 Hermitaurs
Notes: Daimyo Hermitaur is a Carapaceon and wields water. Make sure you bring Cool Drinks and travel to area 3 to be introduced to this giant hermit crab (for a bit of trivial, Daimyo Hermitaur’s skull is a Monoblos skull). Bring Nulberries for Waterblight. Daimyo likes to slap you around with its claws and its shell is very hard and will bounce most weapons so aim for the soft body of Daimyo itself for maximum damage.
Tumultuous Sprouts¶
Objective: Deliver 8 Abyssal Mushrooms
Location: Jurassic Frontier
Subquest: None
Notes: Totally safe…yeah, right. If their suspiciously specific denials didn’t have you raising red flags already, then the cutscene should explain the rest. Unlike in previous quests, you’re dumped straight into area 11, and right away you’re going to be introduced to…who? Well, he’s definitely out of your league right now. Get out as soon as you can and get on with gathering those mushrooms already!
If you’re really wondering, yes¸ with patience and skill (or with overpowered gear from multiplayer, you sneaky conniving conniver!), you can capture or even kill the guest monster here. But I highly recommend you don’t, especially if the gear you have is gear from the solo campaign only. Future runs of this quest, if you run it again, will have Tetsucabra or Great Maccao as potential guest monsters. Talk with the Bherna Chief again and you will learn the monstrosity’s name: Glavenus .
Completing this quest will unlock the remainder of your key quests. Hooray!
The Desert Gourmand¶
Objective: Hunt a Nibelsnarf
Location: Dunes
Subquest: Wound Nibelsnarf’s front legs
Notes: Snarf snarf warf warf.
Travel to area 7 to meet the very interesting and eccentric Nibelsnarf . Name makes it hard to take it seriously, but don’t be fooled! Be sure to take that barrel bomb out of the supply box—if you put it down in Nibelsnarf’s path, he will eat it and then explode! Put your weapon up and press A to fish Nibelsnarf out of the sand . Rotate the left circle pad as fast as you can and you will then have a great chance to fulfill the sidequest and do some massive damage. Be sure to use a paintball—Nibelsnarf can use the sands to cross areas you otherwise can’t access.
Current Events¶
Objective: Hunt a Royal Ludroth
Location: Deserted Island
Subquest: Slay 8 Ludroth
Notes: Complete “Tumultuous Sprouts” to unlock this key quest! Deserted Island should be a fairly new area to you, it was first featured in 3 Ultimate and in this game has been modified slightly to cut out all the underwater areas. Royal Ludroth will be chilling in area 10. The subquest, the 8 Ludroth you need to kill, will probably happen without you expending much effort. Royal Ludroth will constantly be spawning them, and they will be getting in your way, so you’ll be getting rid of them anyway. Note that even the little Ludroth can cause Waterblight, to say nothing of Royal Ludroth himself!
Robbed Blind¶
Objective: Hunt a Gypceros
Location: Marshlands
Subquest: Wound Gypceros’s crest
Notes: You must complete “Tumultuous Sprouts” to unlock this key quest! Travel to area 8 to meet the Gypceros , a little Bird Wyvern who can cause brilliant light to stun you, or can poison you. When Gypceros begins to lean forward and flicker its crest, it’s about to unleash a flash that will stun you and your Palicos. If you have a shield, you can shield it. The Hunting Art “Absolute Evasion”, the Bushido perfect evade, and panic diving can also help you evade this attack. This quest takes place in a new area, the putrid, stagnant Marshlands , so if you want, take the time to gather up some stuff while you’re at it. Be sure to Paintball Gypceros, because he can and will fly to escape you!
Completing these key quests will unlock for you an Urgent Quest of the most dazzling order.
URGENT: The Nocturnal Enchanter¶
Objective: Hunt a Malfestio
Location: Jurassic Frontier
Subquest: Wound the Malfestio’s head
Notes: Malfestio is a new Bird Wyvern in this game, and is a beautiful indigo owl with lustrous plumage and a hypnotizing stare. In addition to being able to put you to sleep, Malfestio generates powder that will reverse your movement controls . If you find yourself with a big green question mark on your head, run towards Malfestio to run away! Head to area 4 to find Malfestio. Note that when Malfestio is tired and wants to sleep he will do so on a tree branch—only a Gunner can reach him there. Malfestio’s wings will bounce weapons without good sharpness.
