The Piranha Plant is a staple of Mario games, where they originally only came out of pipes. In 3D World, they can be found pretty much anywhere, with them snapping and trying to bite your character whenever they get close. They can be defeated by pretty much any attack. There are a few variations of the Piranha Plant, like the Big Piranha Plant. This one is just as it sounds, as it’s a bigger version of the normal one. It takes two hits to defeat it fully, as the first one will simply stun it and while it’s stunned, attack it again.
Besides the above, you will also rarely run into Potted Piranha Plants. As the name suggests, they are Piranha Plants inside of pots that you can pick up and carry around levels. You cannot carry them through pipes or doors, but while carrying them, they will snap at any enemy, devouring them in the process. If you set them down after picking them up once, they will snap at the player, too. The last variation is a Fire Piranha Plant, which shoots fireballs at the player. They are similar in other aspects, taking on a dark color appearance, with orange spots.
