Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

World 5-Castle: King Ka-Thunks Castle

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Ka-Thunks are the spiked, hollowed-out walls that crash down on giant squared areas throughout the level. Get used to jumping through them as they fall down, as that is the ideal way to get past them, as they are completely invincible to anything you can do. Go up the steps at the start and past two Ka-Thunks, where a ?-Block is found nearby with a power-up. Continue past some more Ka-Thunks, using the Jump Panel to get to the next ledge. Jump up the swinging platforms, past some Chargin’ Chucks, until you see a Green Star Ring. The coins will be on some swinging platforms, but you will get Green Star #1 when you collect them all.

(1 of 2) The first Green Star will require you to collect the coins

The first Green Star will require you to collect the coins (left), The Stamp will be in an alcove above one of the Ka-thunks coming out of the wall (right)

Jump off at the top and use the Warp Box to come to the Checkpoint Flag, followed by a series of Ka-Thunks. There is another ?-Block here with a power-up (Super Bell), which should indicate you need to do some climbing. The Ka-thunks will be coming out of the wall here, then dropping into the pit on the left side. Stop at the second one and climb the wall to find the Stamp in an alcove, then don’t go past the third one, waiting until you spot Green Star #2 in the middle of one of the Ka-thunks coming out of the wall.

(1 of 2) The second Green Star is in the middle of one of the Ka-thunks

The second Green Star is in the middle of one of the Ka-thunks (left), The third Green Star is in an alcove above the final Warp Box before the boss (right)

The final section requires some precision on your end. Stand on the Jump Panel and leap when the Ka-Thunk goes parallel to the ground so you arrive safely on the next level. Before taking the Warp Box at the top, climb the wall up to Green Star #3, then head to the boss battle.

Boss: King Ka-Thunk

The battlefield is divided into nine squares that King Ka-Thunk will fall onto during the course of the fight. He sits within a normal Ka-Thunk, splashing down on a tile taking up some of the space. The objective is to let him fall on your square, but to stand in the empty space that he isn’t landing on. You will want him to land on his face, as his weak point is on his back. From here, you can simply jump up onto his back to deal damage. As you do this, King Ka-Thunk will speed up his rotation and make some of the tiles disappear so you need to stay on your toes.

(1 of 2) You will need to jump on King Ka-thunk whenever he exposes his weak spot

You will need to jump on King Ka-thunk whenever he exposes his weak spot (left), After hitting him, he will remove some of the floor (right)

Collect the clock after taking the warp box, then climb to theGoal Pole and the Sprixie Princess.
