Technical Ability

In this section we take a closer look at the character attributes in Cyberpunk 2077, including what does what and where you should be focusing your upgrades first.

Cyberpunk Technical Ability Attribute

*Technical Ability represents your technical know-how. It allows you to unlock doors and use Tech weapons. Each increase in level will increase your armor by 5%. *

Technical Ability
Increases your Armor by 5%.

Your Technical Ability attribute also determines the maximum level your Crafting and Engineering skills can reach.

Like Intelligence and Cool, Technical Ability only has two skills it governs. Crafting is pretty self-explanatory, as it determines what you can craft and how well and efficiently you can craft it. The entire tree is somewhat undermined by the fact that with little or no investment you can use Crafting to achieve infinite positive cashflow and make yourself nearly bulletproof by crafting Armadillo armor mods, but a heavy investment into Technical Ability will increase your return-on-investment and make Crafting more flexible, in general. Engineering largely includes grenade-related perks, and perks that influence how the three weapon types - Power, Tech and Smart - work… with a very, very heavy focus on Tech weapons. Weapon type transcends normal skill barriers, and you can find potent Tech weapons of almost every type (revolver, shotgun, etc.), making it an interesting consideration for any character who aspires to do anything more than melee.

Your Technical Ability also influences what cyberware you can equip, although unlike Body and Reflexes, there is no Tech-focused operating system… and generally cyberware with Technical Ability requirements are underwhelming. Microgenerators shock enemies when your Health is low, Feedback Circuits restore Health when you charge a Tech weapon and Mechatronic Cores increase the damage you deal to drones, mechs and robots.

Consider investing in Technical Ability if you like throwing grenades or plan to make good use of Tech weapons (regardless of what type of Tech weapon it is), or if you just want to be able to craft your way to supremacy. Be mindful of the fact that as it currently stands, a character with a significant investment in Technical Ability mostly benefits from convenience, not power - legendary weapons can be purchased, money is easy to obtain, and the effects of armor mods (save the aforementioned Armadillo mod, which requires no investment in Crafting) are dubious, at best.
