There is a large assortment of weapons in Dead Space 2023 Remake to help you take down those pesky Necromorphs, and the Contact Beam when upgraded is arguably one of the strongest. Thankfully, you can get this early on, but understanding what makes it so strong can be quite deceptive at first, as it feels underwhelming at a glance. This page will guide you on where to get the Contact Beam, and how to utilize it properly.
Contact Beam Location¶
It is possible to obtain the Contact beam as early as Chapter 4. You can find it in the Records Room. Unfortunately, you’ll need Security Clearance 2 to enter it. The good news is that Security Clearance Level 2 is granted to you at the start of Chapter 4, so this won’t be a problem.
Progress the story until you have the “Reroute Power from Mining” objective, and follow it until you reach the Administration access corridor. As you proceed through the hall, an explosion will happen which will cause the area to lose oxygen, making you have to use the suit’s oxygen rebreather.
Continue through the corridor and go through the “Administration to Mining” door at the end. The Record Room will be to your immediate right where you can use your newly acquired Security Clearance Level 2 to unlock it. The contact beam will be lying next to the corpse on the floor in front of the door if you head inside.
What Does the Contact Beam Do?¶
As with all weapons, there are two modes to the gun, Primary Fire and Alternate Fire. The Primary Fire () allows you to unleash a continuous beam of energy at the monsters. This is best used against the easier enemy types. The Alternate Fire () “Asteroid Cutter” will charge up the energy, and unleash a charged-up powerful shot.
This is particularly good against more challenging enemies, especially bosses. When upgrading the Contact Beam, you want to focus on SFD (Secondary Fire Damage) and CAP (Capacity). The Secondary Fire is undoubtedly where the gun shines, and the added capacity allows you to fire more of them without having to reload. Stating this, PFD (Primary Fire Damage) and REL (Reload) are still good which you’ll have to upgrade to acquire some other nodes. Finally, all the upgrades are worth getting for the Contact Beam, especially the Supersymmetry Tether and the Diffraction Module as these will significantly increase the size of the Alternate Fire projectile.
