Best Infiltrator Builds

This page will show you some of the best Infiltrator builds in Mass Effect 2. Here, you’ll find details on the best abilities to pick, the best weapons to equip, including what heavy weapon to choose. Also, you’ll find what armor works best for the build.

Infiltrator Overview

The Infiltrator, like the Soldier and Engineer, is a core class in Mass Effect 2. The Infiltrator is the quintessential Marksman class, they excel at long range, especially with Snipers, and they have access to a few unique Tech Powers such as Tactical Cloak, which make them invisible. Although they are better tailored for long range, they make a great close quarters fighter by using a shotgun, and Tactical Cloak.

Best Infiltrator Build

This build revolves around taking long range gunfights with a Sniper, whilst dealing extra damage when using your Tactical Cloak. We take the Ammo Powers to turn the Infiltrators’ weakness into a strength by allowing them to strip shields and armor effortlessly.

Power Evolution Rank (Squad Points)
Disruptor Ammo n/a 2 (3)
Cryo Ammo Squad Cryo Ammo 4 (10)
Tactical Cloak Assassination Cloak 4 (10)
Incinerate n/a 3 (6)
Operative Assassin 4 (10)
Bonus Power: Warp Ammo Heavy Warp Ammo 4 (10)
  • *2 Squad Points remaining.

Powers

This section will go into more detail on why the Powers are chosen for this particular build.

Incinerate

Incinerate is a damage over time power that is effective against enemies with armor, and can stop health rengeration, especially on the Krogan. We choose the Heavy variant of the Evolved Power to increase the damage of it to a huge 210 over three seconds.

Disruptor Ammo

Disruptor Ammo empowers the ammunition of your equipped weapon to shoot out electric infused bullets which shreds enemies shields, on top of that, they deal bonus damage to synthetic enemies, and can temporarily stun them. We choose the Heavy variant of the Evolved Power to increase the damage it does to shields and synthetics.

Tactical Cloak

Tactical Cloak is a unique power exclusive to Infiltrators. It’ll make you invisible for a short while, increasing your damage at the same time. We choose the Assassination variant of the Evolved Power to increase the amount of damage you do inside it. This should be used off cooldown.

Operative

We max out Operative to get all those Health, Weapon, Power and Cooldown passives allowing you to take more hits, and cast more powers, and deal extra damage. Also, it enhances your Sniper Zoom, slowing down time. We choose the Assassin variant of the Evolved Power to increase the Sniper Zoom slowdown, and it also increases your Weapon and Power damage.

Bonus Power

Bonus Powers are granted to you when you complete a companions’ loyalty mission, once you have the Power unlocked, head to Mordins tech lab on Deck 2 of the Normandy, and learn it from the Advanced Training Research Upgrade. You can only have one of these Powers equipped at any given time. We chose the Stasis Power from Liara to freeze enemies in place regardless of their protection, and increasing your damage done to enemies effected with it, allowing you for one shot headshots. For the variant, choose Enhanced which will lower the enemies build up of resisting it.

Weapons

This section will talk about what weapons are best for this particular build.

Heavy Pistol

Weapon Base Damage Accuracy Recoil Fire Mode Fire Rate Clip Size
M-5 Phalanx 109 High High Semi-Automatic 80 RPM 6

The M-5 Phalanx was originally added as DLC in the original Mass Effect 2, in the Legendary Edition, it can be purchased from Ratch, who resides on Tuchanka.

What makes the M-5 Phalanx so effective, is that it’s highly accurate due to its built in laser, and it hits like a truck with 109 base damage. Like most handguns, it’s better to use against enemies with armor, or as a weapon to fall back on if you run out of ammo in your primary or the enemies close the gap, making it harder to snipe them.

Sniper Rifle

Weapon Base Damage Accuracy Recoil Fire Mode Fire Rate Clip Size
M-98 Widow 368.3 High High Single Shot Low 1

The M-98 Widow is only obtainable during the Mission Collector Ship, within the Mission, you’ll get the choice to get Advanced Weapon Training, this will allow you to pick another weapon type to add to your arsenal that your class normally couldn’t use, alternatively choosing a weapon type you already know, will reward you with a special weapon.

The M-98 Widow is the strongest weapon in the game capable of dealing disgusting amounts of damage, and using it inside Tactical Cloak enhances that, making this weapon the one that Snipers dream about.

or

Weapon Base Damage Accuracy Recoil Fire Mode Fire Rate Clip Size
M-92 Mantis 263.1 High High Single Shot Low 1

You’ll get the M-92 Mantis automatically at the beginning of the Mission Freedom’s Progress providing you’re an Infiltrator or Soldier.

The M-92 Mantis is like the baby M-98 Widow. Acts very similarly in that it’s a one headshot kill type of Rifle, but it drops off later in the game, and should be changed for the M-98 Widow. Another great shout would be M-97 Viper which is lower damage, but it shoots in bursts.

Best Heavy Weapon

Weapon Base Damage Accuracy Recoil Fire Mode Fire Rate Clip Size
M-100 Grenade Launcher 500 High Low Semi-Automatic 125 RPM N/A

The M-100 Grenade Launcher is the first Heavy Weapon you’ll get in the game, you’ll get it during the Mission Prologue: Awakening. The reasoning behind choosing this, is its crowd control capablilties which as an Infiltrator, you won’t have much of.

Advanced Weapon Training

During the Mission Collector Ship, you’ll get the choice to get Advanced Weapon Training, this will allow you to pick another weapon type to add to your arsenal, that your class wouldn’t normally be allowed to use.

For this build, choose Sniper Rifle. This will reward you with the M-98 Widow, the best Sniper Rifle in the game.

Best Armor

Armor Location Cost Stats
Kuwashii Visor Various Vendors 2,000 10% Headshot Damage
N7 Chestplate From the Start 3% Power Damage
N7 Shoulder Guards From the Start 3% Weapon Damage
Stabilization Gauntlets Omega Market 8,000 5% Weapon Damage
Stimulator Conduits Omega Market 4,000 10% Storm Speed

Best Squadmates

Because the Infiltrator has no real weakness, you squadmates don’t matter as much as other classes, saying that, bringing a Sniper Team is fun. Take Garrus, who has access to Overload, and can use a Sniper, and Thane who has access to Warp and Throw as well as a Sniper. You could also consider bringing along Jack and Samara for their close quarters prowess, especially on missions with lots of Geth.
