Now that you have Lapras Paddle, you can explore some new watery areas on Melemele Island. Naturally, these places are home to Water-type Pokémon, some of which you can’t encounter elsewhere. Considering the next trial, at Wela Volcano Park, is the Fire-type trial, having more Water-type options wouldn’t hurt.
At this point, there are two ways to return to Melemele Island. One, you can visit the Ferry Terminal located towards the far west of Heahea City, near where Kukui and Lillie arrived. This will take you back to the Marina at Hau’oli City. The other is to use Mantine Surf from Heahea Beach, which will send you towards Big Wave Beach.
As it happens, your newly acquired powers will be useful at both of the destinations. However, to reduce needless backtracking, we recommend riding Mantine to Big Wave Beach.
Big Wave Beach¶
Assuming you arrived at Big Wave Beach, head over to the southernmost part of the beach, where the Sandy Cave is. If you came here earlier, it was impossible to proceed through the cave because of all the water. But not anymore of course! Summon Lapras from the water’s edge and paddle north-east. You’ll reach an island in the center of the cave.
In the middle of this island, pick up the glistening item to discover it’s a Big Pearl. Unfortunately, you can’t go any further than this. If you try to continue east, there are boulders in the water blocking the way. Meanwhile, towards the north, there’s a giant cube-shaped boulder that also refuses to budge. Talk about a pair of killjoys!
Instead, exit the cave and leave Big Wave Beach from the east. Afterwards, travel south through Route 2 to reach Hau’oli City.
Hau’oli City¶
Coming from the north-west, follow the road all the way south-west (from your perspective), past the T-junction. As you reach the corner where the town hall is, go through the gap in the hedge on the left side of the road. Head north-east from the mansion entrance. Over here, there’s a swimming pool with something shiny floating on the water.
Get close and press the A button to use your Fishing Rod to hook it up. Finally, Totem Sticker #005 is yours! Next, return to the T-junction where the Pokémon Center is. From here, summon Tauros and charge south-east along the road (again, from your viewpoint). You’ll eventually arrive at the Beachfront, where you first stepped foot inside Hau’oli City.
Head into the beach along the west side, using one of the ramps by the side of the road. After hitting the sand, make your way towards the bottom of the right-most ramp. Near here should be a pair of Corsolas. Try to help them and you’ll receive a Luminous Moss, which is a held item that boosts Special Defense when hit by a Water-type move.
Now it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for! Approach the shoreline to the south, then summon your new best friend, Lapras. From here, start paddling east to reach Melemele’s surrounding seas.
