This page is a quick and easy guide for how to use Items during and outside of combat in Super Mario RPG. Using Items such as Mushrooms, Pick Me Ups and Flowers can be a make-or-break in combat scenarios, so making sure you know how to use items is super important.
How to Use Items in Combat¶
Using Items during combat is really straightforward and a core component of battling foes - all you need to do is hit the “X” button and select your chosen item using the “A” button . Items like Mushrooms can help restore HP whilst Flower items will give you extra FP (flower points) to allow you to perform Special abilities. You can also use Pick Me Ups to revive fallen companions and it’ll simultaneously heal them to full!
Using an Item will count as a “turn” so think wisely about when you want to use them. You can also use your companions to heal each other so that’s another element to consider! You might have a character that has stronger abilities against a particular enemy, so in that case, you’ll want to use another companion as a “support” character that keeps the damage dealer healthy.
And, don’t forget: you can buy more Items from Item Shops and also find them in Treasure Chests dotted (and hidden) around the world.
How to Use Items Outside of Combat¶
It’s really easy to use Items outside of combat too by using the to open up the menu like you would in combat. You may want to heal up before or after a big fight so you don’t need to use a turn to do so during combat. You can also use Flower Tabs to raise your FP by 1 permanently. So, don’t forget to use Items outside of combat as well!
