Lamp¶
When equipped to the X or Y button, Link will automatically use the lamp. In dark areas, the lamp will increase Link’s vision slightly, so you can see better in the darkness. You can also press the X or Y button to swing the lamp, to light torches or damage monsters. By the time you get the lamp, you already have a sword, so there’s little point in using it as weapon–keep it handy to light up the darkness or light torches to solve puzzles.
Later in the game, you can get the Super Lamp by beating the Treacherous Tower mini-game. Compared to the regular lamp, the Super Lamp does 8x damage to monsters. However you will likely have better weapons at that stage, plus the range of the lamp is weak–you will likely get hit by monsters more than you hitting them.
Scoot Fruit¶
When you’re in a dungeon, you can use this curious fruit to immediately return to the dungeon entrance; afterwards, the item will disappear and you’ll have to buy another one. There’s definitely no harm in keeping one around; it’s handy when you’re dangerously low on hearts or just want to call it a day and return to see daylight.
Foul Fruit¶
This dangerous fruit instantly stuns all the monsters in the area; afterwards, it’ll vanish and you’ll need to buy another one. It’s great when you’re surrounded and need to do a runner or want to kill multiple monsters with minimal stress. However, the fact you can only use it once means it’s only really good useful emergencies. For a more viable alternative, just use the Tornado Rod–it effectively does the same thing for free.
Hint Glasses¶
These funny-looking glasses have a sinister function: they let you see ghosts! Not just any old ghosts though, but Hint Ghosts. Whenever there’s a puzzle or obstruction, wear these glasses and you may see a Hint Ghost nearby–speak to it and pay it 1 Play Coin to obtain a hint.
You can acquire Play Coins by walking with your 3DS or 2DS; for every 100 steps, you get 1 Play Coin. With this guide, you have zero use for the Hint Glasses. Plus the Hint Ghost aren’t always that great–our “favourite” is the Hint Ghost in Lorule’s Fortune’s Choice (what a rip-off!).
Bottle¶
This item is totally useless… by itself that is. When you have one of these elusive containers, you put various things in them, such as potions that replenish health when drank or fairies that automatically revive you after reaching zero health. Now it magically transforms into one of the most useful adventuring tools ever. Throughout the course of the game, you can obtain up to five bottles, which means you can have up to five health-restoring potions or fairies under your belt. Our advice? Don’t leave home without one!
