What Are Clues?¶

When the sun goes down, crime runs rampant in Gotham City, and consequently the night is when socially maladjusted, costumed vigilantes patrol. The most common form of criminal behavior you’ll encounter while on patrol are opportunistic crimes, where a small group of bottomfeeders can be found causing trouble.

Defeating these criminals will earn you XP, salvage and potentially new blueprints, making these events essential chores for keeping your character leveled and equipped with the best gear. How to Find and Interrogate Informants¶

While it’s possible to just stumble onto premeditated crimes the same way you can with opportunistic crimes, you’ll find more premeditated crimes by gathering Clues. Every criminal you defeat will earn you some Clues (indicated by red magnifying glasses which will drop when you dispatch such foes), but among every group of criminals partaking in an opportunistic crime you’ll find a higher-level specimen leading the bunch. This higher-ranking criminal - this informant - has details on premeditated crimes that’ll take place on the next patrol, but to get this information out of them you’ll need to interrogate them.

Before you interrogate an informant, you need to clear the area of lesser thugs, and once done you’ll need to either sneak up on the informant unawares, or you’ll need to deplete the informant’s health bar until it’s red. In either case, once they’re vulnerable, press the / button to perform a grab, then press / to interrogate the captured informant. This will earn you a significant amount of Clues. If you obtain enough Clues during a patrol, you’ll unlock a new premeditated crime during the next patrol. The number of premeditated crimes you’ve unlocked and your progress towards unlocking more will be displayed on the right side of the screen whenever you gain Clues.

You can identify informants by entering AR Targeting mode (hold down the button) and highlighting enemies. The informant will have a question mark over their head.
