When you finally arrive in Daytower, the Darja fort, you will speak with Balahn as part of the main story. You can also receive an Errand off of him, as he needs help searching the valley for a missing Carja patrol. He says to look in the Forsaken Village in the valley southeast of Daytower. When you arrive, look for a dead body by the campfire and examine it to update your quest log. You now need to follow the tracks by using your Focus to find them first, which lead out of the village to the southwest.
Be mindful of the Broadhead grazing or whatever they do across the river, as you end up finding another dead body. Examining this corpse is optional, so do it if you want and keep following the tracks to find a Carja helmet. Check it out and “sniff” out the new trail that comes after, leading you to a lake. There will be a pool of blood right on the shoreline where your trail ends, so look at the blood and it seems you need to swim out to the island.
This island can be very dangerous, as it is inhabited by a new type of Machine called Snapmaws. These alligator-like contraptions can fight on both land and water, so you will want to be careful when swimming, especially since one of the Snapmaws patrols the perimeter of the island. Mark them if you want and find the new trail on the island, following it to the top of the rock formation, where you will find Lakhir on the ground.
Speak with him to find he won’t return to Daytower without his weapon, which is unfortunately in possession of one of the Snapmaws. Luckily for you, it will be moving around, away from the others, so you should be able to easily get a clean shot with a fire arrow on one of its canisters on top, reducing its health to about half or so. Of course, this will bring the unwanted attention of some nearby Watchers, so try and hide and pick them off while you wait for the Snapmaw to go back to its patrol.
You will also want to avoid getting its friends from the other side of the island to come and investigate the explosion from the canister. The easiest way to take down the required Snapmaw is to wait until it comes around again to hit the other canister, which for some odd reason, didn’t explode in the initial blast. The fire damage over time will likely whittle its remaining health to nothing. Once it’s dead, loot the Carja Bow from the body and bring it to Lakhir to officially finish this Errand.
