Horizon: Zero Dawn is an open world action-adventure game with role-playing elements thrown into the mix. It was initially announced at E3 2015, during Sony’s press conference, and was originally set to release in 2016. The game actually started early development all the way back in 2011, following the release of Killzone 3, with the Killzone: Shadow Fall team joining in after that game came out. Horizon uses the Decima game engine, also used for Shadow Fall, and was finally released in North America on February 28, 2017, and in other territories a few days later.
Taking place one-thousand years in the future, colossal machines have overrun and dominated the land, forcing humans to regress to tribal societies who have to survive off the land. Where did these behemoths come from? With a love for technology, it is up to Aloy, an outcast of her Nora tribe, to uncover the mysteries of her world. Take to the open world to explore, fight the metal monstrosities and learn all about the wonderful world of Horizon: Zero Dawn.
