Dondoko Island is home to a host of wildlife, including some unique bugs. While many of them are variants of others, there is still a robust amount of wildlife here to catch. Finding all the bugs can be tough, especially if you are looking in the wrong spots. While it’s easier to tell bugs apart than fish, there are quite a few that have the same overworld design. The guide below goes over how to catch bugs, every bug on Dondoko Island, and how to find the legendary Tsuchinoko.
How to Catch Bugs on Dondoko Island¶
When Ichiban first arrives on Dondoko Island, he is given a net for catching bugs. Unlike fishing, catching bugs is simple. You find one that is freely roaming around the island and bring out your net. You will need to have the bug in the area of the net when it moves over them. While there are some bugs that stay in place, many of them, such as the butterfly, will fly around. Beetles and Cicadas will run away if you don’t walk up to them slowly. Likewise, spiders and scorpions sometimes run away at high speeds, making them difficult to catch. This seems to be more of the case when they are the silver or gold variants.
You will also find that the grasshoppers hop around, so it can be easiest to try to catch them mid-jump. You will need to learn each bug’s unique movements to hunt it down, but for the most part, they are pretty easy to catch. We do recommend upgrading your net so that you can swing it faster. Bugs can be found on every part of the island, and it’s possible to catch a majority of them before completing the Dondoko Island storyline. Keep in mind that catching bugs will earn you popularity points. The more of the same type of bug you catch, the more their ranking will increase, giving you more points and allowing you to sell them for a higher price.
Additionally, Dondoko Farm has every catchable bug available and gives you a chance to catch dozens of them each day. It’s still left up to RNG which bug you will catch, but the typing stays the same. Grasshoppers always appear near the volleyball court, and gnats always fly around the Recycling Center. The same is true on the main island, where the same type of bug will appear in the same spot each day. The only thing that changes is the variant of that bug species. Bugs don’t have much use outside of the Donko Bug variants being used in souvenirs; the rest can be sold for a profit.
All Bugs on Dondoko Island¶
There are a total of 36 bugs roaming around Dondoko Island, and they are a bit easier to identify than the fish. Many of these are variants of the same bug. For example, you have silver and gold levels for many of the bugs listed below. Gold is the rarest catch and sells for the most money. In most cases, the rarer the bug, the harder it will be to nab with your net. Additionally, there is only one nocturnal bug. Outside of this, the day and night cycle doesn’t play a huge part in bug hunting. The table below goes over all 36 types of bugs and where you will generally find them around the island. Keep in mind that every bug listed below can be caught on Dondoko Farm.

How to Catch The Tsuchinoko on Dondoko Island¶
While the Tsuchinoko isn’t technically a bug, you will need it to complete your Dokopedia. So far, it has been found spawning in three locations: the Forest, the Hill, and on Dondoko Farm. The Tsuchinoko appears as a black slug, much like Spiders and Scorpions. It will run away when you get close too fast, much like higher-level bugs, and it is rather fast. There is no set way to find it. You will just need to scoop up all the black slugs until you encounter one.
