Substory 12 Guide: Saved By Kindness - Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Once you reach Chapter 3 of the main story in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, you will unlock a bunch of Substories. One of these initial Substories is Saved By Kindness, introducing you to a character named Sawai, who seems to be distraught after losing his phone. This page will provide a full walkthrough of Substory 12: Saved By "Kindness" iconKindness, including tips and tricks on how to win the fight at the end.

Sawai is quick to throw his money at just about anything.

Where to Start Saved By Kindness in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

As mentioned above, you won’t be able to get this Substory until Chapter 3, when you are told to go to "Kiryu" iconKiryu’s car. This is one of many different Substories that unlock at the same time, with this one appearing over on Makani Avenue, which is on the eastern side of the map in Hawaii. It is there you will meet Sawai, who is distraught over losing his phone. All of his info was on the phone, so he exaggerates that he’ll be sleeping outside because he can’t find his hotel. Ichiban, being the good guy he is, offers to help by asking around for this “Beachside” Hotel.

How to Complete Substory 12 in Infinite Wealth

You don’t really need to do too much for this Substory, as it’s mostly just a series of cutscenes. After initially meeting with Sawai, you will ask around for a location of the “Beachside” Hotel. You don’t get any leads on it, though, until you meet with a hula dancer. While she hasn’t heard of a “Beachside” Hotel, she knows of a Seaside Hotel, which sparks Sawai’s memory. The hula dancer mentions she’s part of a group that needs donations to keep running, so Sawai gives one and the woman offers to walk him to the hotel.

At this point, the Substory will begin and you will need to move away from Makani Avenue. If you’ve played other games in the series, then you will know to check your map after moving far enough away. Check your map periodically for a blue Substory marker on Makani Avenue, which is your cue to go back there to continue Saved By Kindness. The marker should be right by the "Mama Masala's" iconMama Masala’s restaurant on that street. For providing some help when no one else really did, Sawai wants to treat Ichiban to a meal and they go off to the restaurant together.

(1 of 3) Move away enough until you see the blue icon here to start each additional part.

On the way, you will be stopped by a policeman, a T-shirt salesperson, and a parrot. Each of these will eventually ask for some money, with a familiar donation box. Hmm, something definitely seems fishy here, and it gets even more apparent once you overhear the bird just outside the restaurant. While talking inside the place, Sawai mentions that he met his “special someone” because of Ichiban’s help, prompting an answer from you. Choose The lei girl? to get +20 points in Kindness. After that, you’ll hear some backstory from Sawai, then you’re done with this portion of the Substory.

Get far enough away from Makani Avenue until you see the blue icon appear once again, allowing you to begin the next part. You’ll see Sawai and the girl from before, although Ichiban will have a conversation with some bystanders. They mention that the girl is a swindler, so approach Sawai after it and choose the option to tell him the truth. Of course, he knows that he’s being scammed, but he doesn’t care because giving Kiana (the woman) money seems to be making her happy. That ends this part, so it’s time to do the old “move away to trigger the next part” thing.

(1 of 2) The last part of the Substory will be triggered at this spot to the north.

You’ll see another scene between Kiana and Sawai here, where he’ll give her an umbrella to shield her from the rain. Move away to get the next part to appear, with Kiana running away after Sawai tries to give even more money. The next part of the quest will be to the north, in the parking lot behind the Trolley Stop. Approach the group of people to learn that Kiana is being forced to scam the tourists, including Sawai. Before things escalate, Sawai steps in, only to become a punching bag himself. This will eventually lead to a fight with four Level 8 enemies, none of which should really prove too difficult. Just make sure you don’t let your health dip too low, since you only have two characters at the time this Substory becomes available to you.

After defeating all of the enemies, you learn why Kiana was doing what she did. For your reward, you’ll be given a "Happy Lei" iconHappy Lei. This accessory, when equipped, will increase the items obtained from battle.
