Prior to its release, RGG Studio claimed that Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth as a “monster-class game longer than anything we’ve made so far”. And, now that we have spent time with it and given the game a perfect score in our Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth review, we can confirm it is easily the longest game the studio has ever released. The Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth chapters take you from the streets of Japan to the sandy shore of Hawaii and there is a lot more you can do in-between the main story beats.
How many chapters are in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth¶
There are 14 chapters in Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, ranging from 2-3 hours long to around a half-dozen hours. The full chapter list is:
- Chapter 1: Doin’ The Best I Can
- Chapter 2: Paradise, Hawaiian Style
- Chapter 3: The Fool
- Chapter 4: In The Ghetto
- Chapter 5: Suspicious Minds
- Chapter 6: Puppet On A String
- Chapter 7: Trouble
- Chapter 8: Return To Sender
- Chapter 9: Hard Headed Woman
- Chapter 10: Don’t Be Cruel
- Chapter 11: Devil In Disguise
- Chapter 12: For Ol’ Times Sake
- Chapter 13: Promised Land
- Finale: If I Can Dream
This is about average for most mainline games in the series. Like A Dragon Ishin also had 14 chapters and Yakuza: Like A Dragon (Yakuza 7) had 15. However, the overall length of each of these chapters is far longer than most other games in the series, so you will easily be spending 60-70 hours working your way through the main story quests (that’s if you don’t do any side activities).
There are spoilers below for a few key story beats and how the chapters are structured. So, if you don’t want to have any of the main story spoiled, stop reading and move on to the next section of this guide for the game.
The first chapter entirely takes place within Japan, before chapters 2 and 3 see Ichiban jet off to Hawaii to meet his mother. Unfortunately, things don’t quite go as smoothly and he ends up stuck in Japan for longer than he intended and having to contend with local gangs, returning faces, and Kiryu’s news that he has cancer. During these chapters, up until the end of chapter 7, Ichiban spends his time navigating the streets of Hawaii and recruiting some new Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth party members.
In chapter 8 you then find yourself in Japan, exploring that open world, taking on Memoirs of a Dragon, and seeing everything the other side of the Pacific Ocean has to offer for a considerable length of time as each chapter alternates between life in Hawaii and Japan. Then, the story concludes in the final few chapters and RGG Studios ties a nice bow on this second part of Ichiban’s journey.
