The tourist system allows you to make extra money when on Dondoko Island. The only problem is that making your guests happy can be a bit complicated. Each guest has four needs that you need to meet, and when they are on the island, there are a few things that you can do to increase their happiness, which in turn leads to more Dokobucks. The guide below goes over when tourists unlock, how to make them happy, and how to get rare tourists to visit Dondoko Island.

When Do Tourists Unlock on Dondoko Island?¶
When Ichiban first arrives at Dondoko Island, it’s not fit for human occupation due to all the trash. Once you meet the criteria to become a One Star Resort, this all changes. Once a full day goes by after you’ve reached the One Star Resort Rank, you will have a cutscene play where you will be able to take in tourists. To do this, you must speak with Kenzo and put down lodgings for them to stay in. At first, you can only choose between the Cozy Cardboard Home for 30,000 Dokobucks each or the Simple Tent for 50,000 Dokobucks each.
You will only be able to place two lodgings at most during this time, but this will increase as you clear more areas and increase your Resort Ranking. By Resort Rank Five, you can place five lodgings and have a maximum of 25 tourists on your island per tour. This is affected by the lodgings you purchase. Please keep in mind that each level of lodging takes up more room. Additionally, each area of the map can only have so many lodgings. The north can have three, while the middle of the island can have two. Here’s the rundown of every lodging, how many tourists they can hold, and their price.

Once your lodgings are placed, you can invite your first group of tourists. Each tour lasts for three days, and you will see what your tourists require to be happy before inviting them. Keep in mind that while tourists are visiting, the lodgings can be attacked, causing a negative effect. Be sure to take care of any enemies when they appear, listen out for an announcement that will air if they are currently on your island. You can also check your map for the area the pirates have appeared in. The first set of tourists is easy, but as you have more guests, you will find that many of them, especially the ones that pay well, will have harder requirements to meet.
How to Make Tourists Happy¶
Making tourists happy is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of decorating your island. When checking what a tourist needs, you have a decision to make. You can either bring in tourists whose needs are already met or concentrate on bringing in high rollers who have special needs. You will also want to focus on taking in guests whose needs you have already met, or ones that you have the ability to quickly meet. You can check the guests’ requirements before they arrive. One will be related to the lodging they stay in, one will be related to the theme of your island, one will be a satisfaction point amount, and the last requirement will be related to finding items around your island.
You can check tourist status from your menu or find them walking around the island. Each tourist shows up as a blue dot on your map, and you can hover over each one to tell them apart. Additionally, when you find a tourist walking around your island, you will see a colored happiness square to indicate to you how they are feeling about their visit. With each passing day on the island, their happiness should increase. If they need something improved, then you will be alerted with a notice.
If your guest requires a tent, but you have cottages set up, then their need will be met as you have surpassed it. You will want to get the best lodgings on your island as quickly as you can and ensure that you find every item in the Dokopedia. As for your island theme, there are four that you will need to increase by placing furniture. This is sleazy, elegant, pop, and rustic. There is a meter for each theme that you can increase by placing associated items. If you fill all four meters, then you will be covered no matter the type of guest you receive. Placing furniture will also increase your satisfaction points, allowing you to complete two goals at once. You can check the theme of each piece of furniture in the info section before building it.

Lastly, you will want to be kind to your tourists while there on your island. To do this, you can give them souvenirs that are unlocked and then made on Dondoko Beach at Subaru’s shack. To make a souvenir, you must first unlock the recipe by paying Dokobucks and then collect the materials for Subaru to make it. You can then gift souvenirs to tourists to increase their happiness level. Additionally, you can speak with Subaru to host bonfires to give another boost to their happiness. The higher the happiness level, the more your guest’s rank will increase once the tour is over. This will lead Ichiban to receiving a bigger tip, and when the tourists return to the island, they will spend more money. Tourists won’t affect your island satisfaction or popularity points, but you can earn Dokobucks and money from hosting them.
How to Attract More Tourists¶
Every time a tour ends, more tourists will line up the next day for you to invite, and the better your resort is, the better the guests you can attract. To get the gold-level tourists that spend the most money though, you will need to use commercials. This will unlock once you clear the Lake after reaching Resort Level Three. There are two types of commercials you can choose from a TV broadcast for 100,000 Dokobucks or an online broadcast for 200,000 Dokobucks. Each broadcast will give a boost of 500 points to your island’s popularity and attract rare guests. You can only run one commercial per tour period.
