Description¶
Never judge a book by its cover; this large and peculiar-looking bird can be a bane for novice hunters due to its wild and explosive attacks, plus its ability to summon other large monsters into the fray. A Great Jaggi is annoying enough, but a Rathian? Yikes!

Key Attacks¶
Explosion Dance - The Peco knocks its flints together in preperation before lunging towards the hunter, causing an explosion upon landing. This can happen up to three times. The best way to avoid it is to roll past the Peco as it lunges forward.
Charge - The Peco runs forward towards the hunter, knocking them aside with its whole body.
Spit - The Peco coughs up a series of spit balls towards the hunter, lowering fire resistance on hit.
Tail Swipe - The Qurupeco swings its tail around in a circular motion, normally used if a hunter is attacking from behind.
Flight - During flight the Peco can charge at the hunter, launch a ball of spit of simply peck downward.
Recommended Strategy¶
You want to tackle the Qurupeco from its side, if only because of the sudden explosions that the Peco can produce.
As with any creature, adopt a cautious attack and dodge mantra, picking your windows in between its attacks. The Peco is swift, and its attacks vicious, so getting outside of its attack range is important.
The calls and dances are you big invitations to attack. The moment the Qurupeco starts one of its rituals is a great opportunity to land an extended string of attacks and deal some significant damage.
Perfect the act of dodging the Explosion Dance and keep moving when the Peco is in the air, then look for those big attack windows, and you’ll have this monster largely sussed out.
